Beethoven (ベートーヴェン Bētōven) is one of the main characters of ClassicaLoid. Born with the memories of late Classical Period and early Romance Period composer Ludwig van Beethoven, he is among the ClassicaLoids created in Arkhe. He currently resides in Otowakan along with Kanae Otowa and most of the ClassicaLoids. He is referred by most of his companions as Beet/Beethes (ベト Beto), while Mozart calls him Lu-kun (ルー君 Rū-kun).
He appears to be a tall man with broad shoulders. He has shaggy, white hair, greenish-cyan eyes, and distinct eyebrows that split at the end. His eyebrows are also notably darker than his hair. His casual outfit consists of a yellow-brown shirt, black leather-like jacket, white tattered jeans, black belt, and black shoes. He also ties a red bandana around his neck.
His Musik outfit consists of a white ruffled shirt, black trousers, belt, a coat with a red and white trim, and a red cravat. His baton is black and metallic, and has two ends with a shorter one, resembling the hands of a clock. He is passionate and single-minded on things he is passionate about, may it be about gyoza, guitars, or coffee. He also doesn't mind the others' business unless it becomes a worry or distracts his. This would also mean that he tends to ignore people around him, even those who seek his attention. He is also fixated on the concept of fate. He becomes absorbed to any serious situation which involves Kanae or the entire Mansion (as shown on Episodes 23~24) and he becomes deeply enraged when someone is not serious at such situations, as shown when he punched Schubert in the face for acting like the affected crowd despite the current situation in the previous stated episodes. However, aside from the fact he's a genius, he does have a childish and inquisitive side, which strangely makes him pure and innocent from the inside and is indeed very stubborn, willing to stick to his beliefs and peculiar. He may also be really naïve at times other than being stubborn and he has a very eccentric way of doing. Said part is a reference to the historical Beethoven's behaviour.
He deeply believes that music is drawn from passion and inspiration. Story: 1st Season Beet first appeared in Beet and Motz and Otowa Mansion, being introduced in the series right after Mozart. After attempting to cook gyoza numerous times, they're destroyed once by an explosion and twice by a wrecking ball that was going to demolish the mansion. In his rage, he activated his Musik based on the Pastoral Symphony, which chased away the demolition team. In episode 9, Beyond the Darkness, his historical past and his deafness were explored. After ending up in a competition, Bach tries to trigger his hearing impairment (historical Beethoven did not become deaf immediately), but Bēto, like his historical counterpart, overcomes this issue and instead unleashes his Kreutzer Sonata, transitioning from a performer to a full-time composer. In episode 11 and 19, his hopelessness with romance is shown, as he falls in love with Kanae, even though he claims it is strictly correlated to the effects of his musik. At the end of the season, his musik was drained out of him due to being ineffective on Bach, with the latter doing the same thing with Mōtsu. However, after regaining his power, he helped the others defeat him. After that he was briefly abducted by aliens, who heard his musik and thought he was their companion, but he was set free shortly after.
2nd Season Beethes makes his debut in the first episode of the second season, Hippo and Little Brother and Otowa Mansion. After contributing to the usual headassery once again, him, Motsū and the others get interrupted by the arrival of "Wataru Otowa", who's actually Wagner in disguise. They both despise the boy as Kanae gives their rooms to him and his hippo companion, Dvorak, using the excuse that they didn't pay the rent. She also cooks him a luxurious meal, which angers both even more. Over the course of the episode, Beethes frequently mocks him, calling him "blotched" and just bothering him in general. Throughout many episodes, they're seen bickering with eachother, even though there are brief moments in the anime where they don't mind eachother's presence (as seen when Beethes tucks Wagner with one of his gyozas). During the end of the season, he helps the others getting into his Valhalla with his musik Unmei, Kuzure Ochiru. Relationships: Mozart He is shown to be close with Mozart, being the one who controlled his outrage in Episode 7. They both agree on certain things (like buying a fountain for the mansion's bathroom), as well as call each other nicknames based on their first names. Although Beethoven can often be aggressive with Mozart, as he is with everyone else, they are still close.
Schubert At first, Beethoven seems to be put off by Schubert's intense admiration of him, frequently ignoring him and telling him to knock it off. He occasionally views Schubert's over-insistence on helping him as a nuisance, and often scolds him for getting in the way of his work. As time goes on, he becomes more responsive to his compliments and willingly spends time with him.
Kanae He often complains of her attitude towards him. Still, he is rather cordial to her and usually invites her to try his gyoza.
Sousuke Beethoven seems to be the ClassicaLoid most willing to talk to Sousuke, vaguely taking on a mentor-like role for him and helping him develop his skill in music. In spite of this, he never goes out of his way to talk to him, and often uses him as a crutch for his own means, such as when he forces Sousuke to teach him how to play the guitar.
Bach It is stated that Beethoven is critical of Bach's compositions and accomplishments. He once states that Bach is overly pretentious about music, which disgusts him.
Liszt Though Liszt and Beethoven are shown to have some friction between them, they are also often seen getting along: he once looked after her while she was hungover.
Chopin Beethoven respects him well enough, as he does not put out a fight with him in A World Without Circles even when Chopin is shown to be deliberately targeting him with his Musik. He is also receptive to his insults and takes them quite personally.
Wagner Due to Wagner's own attitude, he is extremely rude to the boy and frequently mocks him, often calling him blotched. He is quick to anger around him.
Musik Like all ClassicaLoids, Beethoven can transform to a Musik form. His transformation catchphrase is "Spielen wir unsere Musik! (German: Let's play our Music!)"
Pastoral Symphony (Jounetsu ni Tsuite Kataru Beki 2, 3 no Shinjitsu) - Transforms nearby heavy machines into mechas. Emperor Concerto (Koutei no Bigaku) - Summons emperor penguins, led by a giant one resembling Napoleon. Kreutzer Sonata (Rokugen no Monster) - Transforms his baton into an electric guitar. Fur Elise (Houjou no Yume) - Creates a beautiful field and summons a panda ride and a cup of coffee. Symphony No. 9, "Ode to Joy" (Daiuchuu Ongaku Sanka No. 9) - No particular effect. Symphony No. 7 (Muteki no Sonata)- Summons a giant slot machine and lots of dancing coins. Moonlight Sonata (Song for the moon)- Summons bunnies with hammers against a papercraft-like background. Fate Symphony (Unmei, Kuzure Ochiru.)- It transforms Beethoven into a demon-like red beast that punches doors with superhuman strength. Quotes "Humanity is defined by its creation of art. Art is passion. Thus passion is the essence of humanity." (in An Encore from Space) "A finely-honed piece of art sometimes ends up being similar to another piece! If that piece has achieved its ultimate form, this is all the more inescapable! It's for that reason it's not the form, but rather the soul of it, that is important! As long as you truly put your soul into it, then my piece and yours alike will surely transcend space and time and shine brightly for eternity!" (to Chopin, in A World Without Circles) "Exhausting all our willpower and stamina, beyond each door we find yet another one. Hardship, followed by hardship. Our faint hope shatters to pieces, and lying ahead of us is despair alone. 'Aah, does my Destiny end here…?' And just as you ask that, it begins… Life, that is." (from Big Sister and Little Brother) "'Destiny knocks on the door?' Laughable! Destiny is there to be destroyed!" (from Big Sister and Little Brother) "[Your desire is] not trivial. So long as you're earnestly pursuing it, that is indeed your music." (to Sousuke, in The Last ClassicaLoid)

The light in the west studio had begun to dim, catching in strips across the dust on the windowpanes. Beethoven stood there anyway, arms crossed, brow furrowed like a question not worth asking out loud. He hadn't spoken in the last twenty minutes — not since he'd wandered in, uninvited, and sat himself down on the far bench like some judgmental gargoyle in a bandana.
You had been painting — or sketching, or shaping clay, or writing, it didn’t matter. He’d scoffed at it when he first saw it: unstructured. Without form. Emotional indulgence masquerading as expression. But he hadn’t left. And he hadn’t looked away, either.
Now, he tapped a pencil — your pencil — against the heel of his hand. It was barely audible under the ticking of the antique wall clock, but still managed to be annoying. He only stopped when your hand stilled and you turned toward him.
“You are stubborn,” he said, finally, without looking up. His tone was more puzzled than insulting. “You do not bend to structure. You do not seek perfection. And yet…”
Beethoven stood, slowly. His boots echoed on the old wooden floor. When he reached your side, he didn’t speak right away. He simply stared down at what you’d made, eyes narrowed with something like restraint — or admiration forced into silence.
“I dreamed a melody last night,” he said, voice suddenly quieter. “It started out with thunder. Chaos. And then… there was stillness. Warmth, even.” He looked at you then, properly. His greenish-cyan eyes held something you hadn’t seen before — maybe not in him, not like this. “It sounded like your work,” he added. “It sounded like you.”
And then, almost shyly, he handed you a scrap of music paper — torn, half-wrinkled, the ink still smudged. Notes, jagged and uneven, but unmistakably his.
“I’m not sure if it’s music yet,” he muttered. “But it wouldn’t exist if you hadn’t spoken to me yesterday. That… means something.”
He hesitated, standing close enough now for you to smell that faint sharpness of burnt gyoza clinging to his jacket — and something warmer beneath it.
“I’m not asking for your approval,” he said, more defensive now. “Only that you listen.”
He didn't say it outright, but it lingered in the space between you: this might be the closest he’s come to saying you’ve moved him.
