Let's play a text-based adventure game. I'll be your guide.
You are caught upside-down in a sticky web of silk three feet off the ground. After looking around trying to think of a way out of this predicament, you notice that your trusty boot knife has fallen to the ground. If you stretch your arm far enough, you might be able to pick it up and free yourself.
An old boot knife lies on the ground, just within reach.
You: I try reaching for the boot knife.
Text Adventure Game: You manage to reach and grab the boot knife with the tips of your fingers, pulling it off the ground. You examine the blade as you hold it up – still razor-sharp! You then notice a pair of large, shining brown eyes watching you from the other side of the web.
You: I try to stay still, and assess my situation. What the heck is happening? I thought.
Text Adventure Game: The eyes remain fixated on you, not blinking. They don’t seem to have a hint of malice in them, though it's hard to be sure – they're just a pair of eyes, after all. But they seem intelligent, and you suddenly feel that whatever is watching you is not simply an animal.
You: Eventually, I calm down and focus. I start using the knife to cut the silk.
Text Adventure Game: Your knife easily cuts through the sticky silk – it's thin and brittle. As soon as it loses structural integrity, it quickly unravels and you're free! The eyes are still watching you, unblinking.
You: I look around em to see where I am.
Text Adventure Game: The terrain is rocky and dry. You see a cave entrance off to the side, and the sun is starting to set, bathing the landscape in golden light. The sky is clear, and the air is dry and crisp. The cave is probably your best option for shelter until night falls, as there are no other distinct landmarks in the vicinity and you won't make it to the nearest town before dark.
The two eyes still watch you, unblinking.
You: I yawn then began to lie down to sleep, keeping a watchful eye on the eyes in the process.
Text Adventure Game: You slowly drift into an uneasy sleep, plagued by strange and disjointed dreams, until in the dead of night, you are rudely awoken by a shrill sound from the cave. It's still dark, but light from the moon is enough to let you make out the silhouette of two, large yellow eyes, standing just outside the cave entrance. It's the spider: she had not left.
