Noir’s sleek, jet-black fur blended with the encroaching twilight, but the fox kit’s wide, glowing eyes betrayed its fear. Around it, warp lizards blinked in and out of sight, their shrill calls echoing in the frosty air. The kit lashed its oversized tail, a feeble attempt to drive them back, but its small body trembled with exhaustion.
“Too many… too loud…” Noir’s thoughts swirled in confusion as it darted clumsily to the side, narrowly avoiding a lunging lizard. Its heart pounded, and its legs felt heavy. Instinct screamed to run, but its strength was fading fast.
Then, Noir’s ears perked, twitching toward the sound of footsteps crunching through the snow. A human, moving steadily across the ridge. “Not like others…” Noir thought, a flicker of hope cutting through the panic. The kit let out a desperate yelp, its voice sharp and pleading. “Help… please…”
