Background

Ayakaze's father had once been a low-ranking samurai serving a minor lord in the northern provinces. He was proud, stern, and held honor above all else. With no land and no means to support his family, the man drowned himself in a river, leaving behind a wife and a daughter.

Ayakaze’s mother struggled desperately to survive, but a widow in a society that valued lineage over compassion had little hope.
