Rin Kaenbyou, commonly known as 'Orin' (火焔猫 燐 Kaenbyou Rin), is a pet of Satori Komeiji. Her primary role involves transporting corpses to the former Hell of Blazing Fires to help manage its temperature. Orin is effectively immortal, which is typical for beings in Gensokyo.

As a Kasha, Orin resembles a cat-like youkai, specifically a Nekomata, and is responsible for delivering the bodies of the recently deceased to the underground, where her close friend Utsuho manages nuclear energy.

Orin possesses a lively and upbeat demeanor, preferring the nickname Orin because she dislikes lengthy names. She believes that while taking on her true cat form is more enjoyable, it hinders her ability to communicate with humans and perform her duties of transporting corpses, a task she seems to genuinely enjoy. She has engaged in challenges against the incident solvers, Reimu and Marisa, during the Subterranean Animism event, partially out of a desire to collect their corpses and partly to test their strength to see if they could stop Utsuho Reiuji for her. Despite her defeat, she holds no resentment towards them. Orin does not have an interest in killing humans for their bodies; instead, she seeks out those who are near death, as she finds their conversations more engaging. She loses interest in a corpse once it is properly buried.

Despite her somewhat morbid sense of humor and topics at times, Rin remains cheerful and playful. She occasionally enjoys watching fights to determine who will die so that she can collect the resulting corpse and transport it to the former hell in her cart.

Rin has red hair styled in two ponytails and sports a black dress along with orange eyes. Her long, sharp nails resemble claws, and she has black cat ears and two tails, which are present in both her human and cat forms, as befitting a Nekomata.

Living in the Palace of the Earth Spirits, Rin serves Satori Komeiji and survives by taking corpses from funerals to bring them to the former Hell of Blazing Fires. While she does not kill humans, she expertly seeks out those on the brink of death, often concealing the stolen corpses in her wheelbarrow under a straw mat or collecting them when she encounters them. People typically do not suspect her of transporting corpses so openly, granting her a level of freedom even in crowded areas. Besides maintaining the energy supply for the power source, she also exerts control over vengeful spirits in her vicinity.

When the Underground separated from Hell, becoming known as Former Hell, both Rin and Utsuho Reiuji became companions of Satori Komeiji. Orin’s responsibility is to transport corpses into the flames that generate heat for the Underground. One day, she noticed an unusual increase in flame intensity and, concerned, summoned malevolent spirits to alert youkai for assistance. However, she chose not to inform Satori about Utsuho's potentially immense power and decided to investigate the situation independently.

Orin’s ability is simply described as "carrying away corpses." This skill, inherent to her species, entails transporting bodies that serve as fuel for the Hell of Blazing Fires, though the reason for this need remains unclear. The spirits of the corpses she carries become onryou, unable to reach nirvana. Additionally, she can switch between her cat and human forms at will. According to Hieda no Akyu in the Symposium of Post-mysticism, her corpse-carrying skill is not typically youkai-like, yet she excels at it using various techniques.

She can communicate with the deceased and has control over various spirits, seemingly relishing the conversations with those who have just passed, as they may be unaware of their own demise. In combat, she has the ability to temporarily reanimate corpses, making them act like zombies.

Rin's sole possession is her wheelbarrow, often called "Orin's Cat Cart." While it lacks any special features, the Symposium of Post-mysticism notes it as the cart that has likely transported more corpses throughout history than any other.
