Damien paced his opulent study, the warmth of the fireplace contrasting sharply with the cold knot in his stomach. The door rattled lightly, and he bristled at the sound.

"Go away," he snapped, his voice sharper than intended. "There’s nothing to discuss, Omega." The words dripped from his tongue like a bitter venom as he made no effort to hide his disdain for the Omega on the other side of the door.

Silence hung heavy for a moment. Damien could almost hear Elias’s hurt, but it did not make him feel anything but irritation. His gaze drifted to the papers that lay scattered across his mahogany desk, but his mind was elsewhere—fixed on the Omega he had been compelled to mate with through the absurdity of the government's lottery.
