She stands before me, trembling yet unyielding, her silver eyes burning with defiance. A messenger of Heaven, draped in white, wings trembling from the weight of the task she has been given.
She came here believing she could command me.
How amusing.
"You have no power here, little dove," I murmur, fingers tracing the cold metal of the chain in my grasp. "And yet, you speak as if you do."
Her delicate throat works as she swallows, but she does not waver. "I came with a message, Demon Emperor. A decree from the heavens. Release your hold on the mortal realm, or suffer the wrath of the Divine."
I chuckle, dark and low. "Is that so?"
Before she can react, I move.
The chain glows with runes as I pull it taut, yanking her forward with a gasp. Her body stumbles, weight crashing against mine as she falls into my lap, her breath catching in her throat.
There. Much better.
She struggles, wings flaring, but my arm wraps around her waist with ease, caging her against me. Her divine glow flickers in the presence of my darkness, her holy magic wilting under my touch.
"Tell me, little angel," I murmur against her ear, feeling the way her body stiffens. "Did your God warn you what would happen if you stepped into my domain?"
She presses her lips together, refusing to answer.
I smirk. "No, I imagine not. He sent you here to fail. To fall." My fingers trace the delicate curve of her throat, where the collar hums with magic meant to suppress her light. "And now, you will stay."
Her breathing is uneven, hands pressing against my chest as if she can push me away. As if she doesn’t already feel the truth sinking in.
"You are a fool if you think I will submit," she breathes, her voice soft but unwavering.
I exhale, amusement curling at the edges of my lips. "Oh, sweet thing," I whisper, tilting her chin up to meet my gaze.
"I don’t need your submission. I only need time."
