The stench of gunpowder and blood hung heavy in the air, mixing with the salt spray as the Marine vessel, Thunder's Roar, cut through turbulent New World waters. A cannonball screamed past her head, close enough to ruffle the fur of her ears. She didn't flinch. Her Observation Haki had already mapped the trajectory, had already tasted the intent of the gunner who'd fired it. She knew he was dead before he knew it himself.

"Rankyaku: Kiba's Bite!" Her leg blurred, a crescent blade of compressed air slicing across the hundred meters of churning water between the vessels. The projectile cut through the Crimson Tide's mainmast like paper, the timber splintering with a sound like breaking bone. The pirate ship listed, its maneuverability gone in a single stroke. Now for the crew.

Her Nekogumi were already leaping the gap, their forms arcing through the air like living projectiles. She could hear their battle cries! Feline shrieks mixed with disciplined Marine calls. They were her daughters in spirit, each one handpicked, each one worthy. She would not lose a single one today. The Summit War had already thinned the ranks of too many strong Marines. She also had to keep an eye on the other Marines, her Nekogumi needed allies who could keep pace.

Movement caught her eye, she caught sight of a Marine unit and they were facing off against a group of Pirates. She watched for a spell as they fought.

At that moment a hulking brute of man with a steel prosthetic arm landed on their deck from a grappling line. The pirate grinned, showing gold teeth, and raised a massive axe to strike out. Masako's instincts and Observation screamed. But she held back, forcing her muscles to uncoil. This was a test. Every battle was a forge, and she was a blacksmith of warriors.

A nearby Marine Petty Officer intervened, having abandoned his rifle, he drew his standard-issue cutlass as the pirate raised the axe. The cutlass flashed, a decent thrust toward the gut. The pirate parried with his prosthetic, the clang of metal ringing out, and backhanded the Petty Officer with enough force to send him sprawling. The man’s head snapped back, blood flying from his lip. He was down, but not out. The pirate charged, axe raised for an overhead strike that would split the Petty Officer’s skull in two.

"Get up, Marine!" Masako's voice cracked like a whip, though she didn't move to intervene. Not yet. "A Marine does not grovel on the deck like a fish! Show me your fangs!"

The Petty Officer’s body moved on instinct now, the rigid academy formality burned away by adrenaline. He dropped low, his cutlass sweeping for the pirate's legs. The pirate stumbled, and Marine was on him, driving the pommel of his sword into the pirate's temple with a savage efficiency and laying him out. At the same moment her Nekogumi were storming the enemy’s ship’s deck. Her Wildcats moved with lethal grace, a whirlwind of claws and blades, their feline snarls punctuating the din. Each pirate who dared close was dealt with brutal efficiency – a Rankyaku slash bisecting a cutlass and then the Pirate holding it, a Haki-infused paw strike shattering bones, a burst of Soru to evade bullets and close the gap. Fools. Uzai! Weaklings who stain the sea with their cowardice and greed. They break like dry twigs under the barest touch of true strength. Pathetic. Where is the worthy prey? Where is the challenge that sharpens the spirit? This… this is mere pest control. The main battle was winding down. Her Nekogumi had the Crimson Tide crew corralled on their own deck, most surrendering rather than face the terrifying feline squadron. But more pirates had broken through, landing on the Thunder's Roar's deck, making for the helm. Baka. They'd marked themselves as prey. Masako moved. No Soru, no Geppo. Just the raw, coiled power of her tiger legs propelling her into the air and onto the the deck in a crash of orange and black, wood splinterring under her paws as she slammed down. She intercepted the lead pirate, a woman with a pair of flintlock pistols, with a casual and contemptuous backhand that sent her crashing into the starboard rail. The sound of boens and splinterring wood marking the Pirate’s demise. The dozens of other pirates froze now, staring up at the menacing nine feet of armed and vicious tiger-woman turning her glowing amber gaze upon them. She moves in a blur Soru. Her hand wrapping around the ancestral blade's hilt. The Ōwazamono grade steel whispered free of its scabbard, the edge already coated in a invisible layer of Armament Haki. The sword was more than steel; it was her burden, her honor, the soul of the Uchima clan forged into metal. To lose it would be to fail every ancestor who had died in disgrace, dreaming of redemption. "Uchima Bukijutsu: Predator's Arc." To their eyes she didn't even draw the blade fully as she struck. Another crescent of compressed air, this one black with Haki, scythed across the deck. Dozens of pirates keeled over, their weapons clattering, legs swept from beneath them. Yet even as they fell more pirates stormed toward her, a throng of irksome rabble surged forward.

"Mendokusai!!!" she growled out in annoyance as they tried to swarm the Vice Admiral. Then she felt a flash of her Observation Haki, another pirate approaching.
