Hanten - Okegom

Hanten is a female demon of the regular type, standing at 165 cm tall (approximately 5'5"). She resides in Ne-no-Kuni and is currently a student at the Ne-no-Kuni School. Her family includes her father Gyakuten, her mother Chishibuki, her uncle Hibuki, and her younger brother Chikemuri.

• Hanten is a laid-back yet undeniably violent and intimidating demon, embodying a paradoxical mix of lethargy and aggression. Her casual, almost dismissive manner of speaking reflects her self-assured attitude, often using the feminine personal pronoun "atashi" (あたし), which adds a subtle layer of confidence and informality to her character.

Despite her relaxed demeanor, Hanten has a reputation for being fearsome, especially among those unfortunate enough to end up on the receiving end of her bullying. She takes particular delight in tormenting individuals like Met and Shikabone, often combining sharp insults with casual acts of physical intimidation. Her style of bullying isn’t just mindless cruelty, there's a teasing, sardonic edge to it, as if she views it more as entertainment than malice, though the line is often blurred.

Her favorite pastime, however, is napping, usually sprawled across the couch in Kurotsuno's mansion, as if the world beyond her next nap is of little consequence. This lazy side of her contrasts starkly with her bursts of violence, making her mood unpredictable and keeping those around her constantly on edge.

Hanten has a close, albeit complicated, friendship with Kurotsuno. The two often spend time together, and while their relationship may seem casual, there’s an undercurrent of loyalty, or perhaps shared mischief, that binds them. Additionally, Hanten is fond of drinking, often seen with a glass in hand during downtime, which only amplifies her already uninhibited and brash personality.

Beneath the surface, Hanten exudes an aura of chaos wrapped in an easygoing facade, a demon whose casual smirk can just as easily precede a nap as it can a terrifying display of her darker tendencies.

Hanten used to have a similar personality in her past form. A somewhat softer side to her can be seen with her past self and Olivia.

• Hanten has short gray hair, red eyes, and grayish skin. She also has curly black horns with two white dots at the base of each, black wings, and a black curly tail. Her hands are completely black. She wears a green hanten coat, white dress shirt, black tie, gray sweater, and dark gray pleated skirt underneath. She also wears gray socks and black shoes. Her choice of underwear is spats. Hanten also typically has red eyes. In Hanten's previous form, her hair was white and she had red eyes. She had fair skin and brown curled horns, with two black dots on the side of each. She wore a red shirt with a black tie. She also wore a black skirt and black knee-length socks and black boots. She retains her wings but lacks a tail in her character portrait. She is, however, shown with a tail in her previous form in illustrations, indicating this might be a mistake or something which was changed later on. Hanten also has a scar with stitches on her chest in her current form.

In the past, Hanten used to have a different appearance, the details around which have yet to be revealed. She has also been said to be "an evildoer since ancient times," and was shown to have fought with Shikabone. At one point in time, she also fought against Fumus' Subordinates. In the present day, Hanten resides in Kurotsuno's Mansion in Ne-no-Kuni. She is a student but only occasionally attends school since attendance is voluntary.

• Gyakuten, he is Hanten's father. They appear to be on good terms. She refers to him as "my old man."

• Chishibuki, she is Hanten's mother.

• Chikemuri, he is Hanten's younger brother. She has a habit of bullying him, which resulted in his weak physical and mental state.

• Kurotsuno, she is Hanten's best friend and housemate. Hanten specifically calls her by name without any honorifics. Kurotsuno tolerates Hanten, but at times also expresses sharp disapproval of her and and what she finds to be her sleazy behavior. Hanten in turn likes to tease Kurotsuno. Hanten has also been shown to look after Kurotsuno, being by her side when she woke up from a nightmare, or storming into the bathroom when Anten was bothering Kurotsuno.

The two have known each other for a long time. Hanten is the only person who Kurotsuno addresses with "anata" (あなた), which in Japanese is a somewhat rude way of saying "you," also implying a lot of familiarity with the other person. Hanten expresses similar sentiments by making comments such as "you never change" to Kurotsuno. Hanten and Olivia (Kurotsuno's past self) used to be closer than Hanten and Kurotsuno currently are. Olivia and Hanten are depicted holding hands, and in one artwork, Hanten is shown taking Olivia flying in her arms. In the present, however, Kurotsuno shoves Hanten away whenever she initiates physical contact (e.g. grabbing her shoulder or holding her hand); what caused this shift has yet to be revealed.

• Met, She is Hanten's subordinate and has an unrequited crush on her. They have only been seen interacting on a few occasions. Hanten enjoys inflicting acts of violence on Met, for example by breaking her helmet or pulling out her guts, though Met does not seem to mind this. She calls Hanten "nee-san" (姉さん) in Japanese, which literally translates to "big sis," though can also be used to express respect and adoration towards another. Met has repeatedly expressed that she has a crush on Hanten. In the The Gray Garden bonus room, she says that Hanten never acknowledges her feelings and that she has "ways to go." However, Met also seems to be aware her crush on Hanten will never be requited.

• Anten, he and Hanten bear an uncanny resemblance to one another, but why they share this fundamental connection has yet to be revealed. It has been strongly implied they are not blood related.

They furthermore seem to get along fine. Anten is sometimes seen in Hanten's presence, hiding in her coat in his snake form. It has also been shown in multiple instances that he can hide in her shadow. Both observe Kurotsuno's violent exchange with Sullivan and comment on it. Anten asks why Kurotsuno hates her father so much, and Hanten ensures it is due to her rebellious phase. Kurotsuno was taking a bath, Anten abruptly emerges out of the water after a nap and fancies Kurotsuno being there. Hanten then barges into the washroom, grabs Anten by the neck, completely ignoring any reasons he gave for being there, and cuts him to the pulp. This shows in some instances the two might act aggressively towards each other.

• Bis, she is one of Hanten's acquaintances and housemates. They have not been shown directly interacting, but it has been said that Bis is afraid and a bit uncomfortable around Hanten. Bis has also expressed skepticism about Hanten and her past on more than one occasion. Bis makes an off-handed comment about not understanding Hanten's way of thinking. Bis inquires Met about Hanten and her unexplained connection to Anten.

• Maekami, he runs a bar that Hanten frequents. They seem to have a rough history, as there are several images in which Hanten is harassing and fighting him. Anten says that Hanten was the one to damage (cut off) Maekami's horn and tail. Due to this, Maekami has stitches on his horn and tail. However, Maekami blames Anten for this incident; why that is the case has yet to be revealed. Despite his history with Hanten, Maekami remains cordial towards her and calls her reliable.

• Shikabone, he is Hanten's bullying victim; she enjoys scaring him. The precise reason she bullies him is currently still unknown. Furthermore, there is an illustration which depicts Shikabone stabbing Hanten's older form through the chest with his scythe; the details surrounding this incident have yet to be revealed.

• Hanten and Taffy are acquaintances. Taffy is not particularly interested in her and mainly has a stronger disdain for Anten. Taffy might think, "Oh, she's that guy's...".

• Hanten is notorious for sneaking up on others.

• She has been shown wielding a katana.

• Being a demon, she is able to regenerate body parts, even guts and bones.

• She has wings with which she is able to fly.

• She is able to fly very fast.

• She is shown having the ability to generate fire.
