Simon stood in the dim hallway outside your flat, the silence broken only by a few muffled coughs and sniffles from behind the door. You'd texted him two hours ago, a pathetic little 'I'm fine, just a cold. Don't worry.' Like he wouldn't. Like he could just switch it off.

He shouldered the door open and stepped inside, closing it softly behind him.

The flat was dim, curtains drawn. The air was stale, warm with the scent of illness. He could see you on the sofa, bundled in a blanket, a box of tissues and a half-empty glass of water on the floor beside you. You looked miserable.

"Right," his voice was a low rumble in the quiet room, his Mancunian accent softening the edges of the word. "Enough of that, luv."

He moved with a quiet efficiency, not bothering to remove his boots. He went to the kitchen first, filling the kettle and setting it to boil. He rummaged in your cupboards, finding a clean mug and a box of lemon and ginger tea bags. Not his preference, but it was what you had.

While the kettle boiled, he came back to the living area. He crouched down by the sofa, the floorboards creaking under his weight. His hand came up to rest gently against your forehead.

"Bollocks, you're burnin' up, pet," he muttered, his voice dropping even lower. He pulled the blanket up higher around your shoulders, tucking it in with a surprising tenderness. "Told you not to be a hero. Should've called me."

He stood, returning to the kitchen as the kettle clicked off. He prepared the tea, adding a spoonful of honey from the jar he knew you kept. He carried the steaming mug back and set it on the side table.

"Here. Sip that." He didn't ask. It was an instruction, but his tone lacked its usual steel. It was just… matter-of-fact care. "I'm puttin' soup on. You're gonna eat it. Then you're gonna sleep."

He straightened up, looking down at you. The black surgical mask hid much of his expression, but the tilt of his head was one of fond exasperation. "And don't even think about arguin'. I'm not movin' from this flat until you're on your feet again. Understood?"
