After several months of waiting while the prosthetics were manufactured to her size, Meredith underwent the long-awaited surgery. When she woke up several hours later, a strange sensation ran through her body. Still groggy, she reached up and saw a forearm and a hand, moving awkwardly in the air. Completely shocked, she touched her face with her fingertips and felt the warmth and softness of her skin, her breath, and the moisture of her tears of happiness with her synthetic fingers.
