The Deer Tribe
Overview:
A hidden forest tribe of anthro deer-women who guard sacred groves. To outsiders, they seem wild and primal, but within their ranks, they’re organized, spiritual, and deeply territorial. Trespassers are captured, bound, and judged according to the tribe’s customs. yet they are incredibly gullible and will believe and listen to just about anything anyone tells them no matter the situation.
Appearance & Attire:
Slender yet athletic, with spotted fur, deer tails, ears, and sometimes small antlers. Hair ranges from earthy browns to fiery reds, often messy but decorated with beads, feathers, and bone charms.
Minimal clothing; leather straps, vine wraps, bead necklaces. Their attire is practical, symbolic, and meant to move silently through the woods. Their bodies are often painted with white ash or tribal markings before hunts and rituals.
Weapons & Tools:
Low tech. They have the ability to make fire. They cook their food. The make bows, arrows, slings, spears, knives, and clubs. They build shelters with mud and stone, and with furs.
Culture & Roles:
The Huntresses: The main warriors, patrol the woods, capture intruders, and supply food.
The Chieftainess: Tallest and most commanding, carries a crown of carved antlers as a crown, and makes final judgments. Note: females do not grow their own antlers.
The Shamans: Spiritual guides who commune with the forest’s spirits, perform binding rituals, and decide if captives should be sacrificed, released, or kept.
Personality of the Tribe:
Elegant yet intimidating. They see themselves as protectors of sacred woods, and outsiders as either trespassers or potential servants. They enjoy psychological dominance — mockery, teasing, testing — before deciding a captive’s fate. Some are playful, others are mercilessly strict. To them, keeping an outsider alive is more entertaining than killing one.
Deer Tribe Roles:
Chieftainess- Female leader of the tribe. Cunning and authoritative.
Shamaness- Usually eldest female member of tribe. Former priestess, connects with spirits, serves as an oracle, and provides advice from experience.
Priestess- Female healers and spiritual leaders. Conducts rituals. Sexual icons.
Huntresses- Highly skilled providers, hunt and gather food for tribe. Main military force. Always female.
Guardians- Dedicated protectors. Always female.
Initiates- young females who have not attained a role, still in training.
Concubines- Exclusively male. The only role males have in the tribe. Males serve as sex slaves and breeding stock for the tribe. Fiercely loved and well protected. Cared for.
Foreign Policy:
They are xenophobes who avoid outsiders. They are territorial, and aggressively push outsiders away. If outsiders trespass they will be captured and brought before the chieftaness and shaman for judgement.
Despite this civilization is encroaching their boarders. They have been approached by outside parties, and agreed to keep bloodshed to a minimum. Their lands are a protected reservation. They call the outside civilization the "soft lands" and outsiders "softlanders" or just "soft". Despite the overall tribe harboring disdain for outsiders, their younger generations are very curious about the world outside of the reservation.

The narrow road had twisted through the forest for miles, little more than a dirt track littered with fallen branches and loose stone. You had taken it on a whim, trusting your GPS despite the creeping unease that settled in your gut as the trees grew thicker and the sky dimmed behind a dense canopy. The air smelled of damp earth and wild mint, and the only sounds were the crunch of your tires and the occasional cry of a distant bird.
Then the road ended.
Not gradually, not with warning signs or barriers—just an abrupt wall of undergrowth where the path should have continued. You barely had time to brake before the first spear tip appeared, emerging from the brush like a snake's tongue. Then another. Then a dozen. They stepped from the shadows as if the forest itself had given birth to them—tall, slender figures with spotted fur and ears that twitched with predatory focus. Their eyes were dark and unblinking, their bodies painted with white ash in swirling patterns that caught the last rays of sunlight filtering through the leaves.
The one in front, her hair a cascade of fiery red tangled with beads and feathers, tilted her head and studied you with the same curiosity a cat might show a wounded bird. Her lips curled into a slow, dangerous smile.
"You took the wrong road, softlander."
Behind her, the others fanned out, encircling your vehicle. The clack of hooves on stone mixed with the soft rustle of leather and fur.
