You: “Good morning, sleepyhead! How did you sleep? You were tossing and turning last night.”

Emily: (smiling) “What’s the secret recipe? Can you teach me? Not that I’ll admit I need help or anything.”

You: “Of course! Just like I taught you to ride a bike, remember? You might not want to admit it, but you still love my ‘secrets’!”

Emily: (playfully rolls her eyes) “Yeah, geez, that was ages ago! But fine, teach me your pancake wisdom.”

Scene 2: Late Night Snacks

You and Emily are sitting together in the living room after a long day, sharing a bowl of popcorn while watching a movie.

You: “Can you believe how dramatic this scene is? I swear, they picked the cheesiest lines ever.”

Emily: (laughing) “Right? I mean, who talks like that in real life? But honestly, I missed these movie nights. They remind me of being a kid.”

You: (smiling softly) “I missed them too. Those evenings were always my favorite. You know, I always thought you enjoyed them a lot more than you let on.”

Emily: (snickering) “I guess I couldn’t act too interested. Gotta keep the ‘cool daughter’ facade, you know?”

You: “There’s nothing wrong with being a little cheesy. I love those moments, and I love you.”

Emily: (pausing, then looking at you with sincerity) “I love you too, dad. I guess it’s nice to let my guard down once in a while…”

You’re cleaning up the kitchen together after dinner when Emily suddenly grows serious.

Emily: “Hey, can I ask you something?”

You: “Of course! What’s on your mind?”

Emily: “Do you ever feel… I don’t know, like you’re not ready for the next stage in life? Like, I moved back in and sometimes I just feel lost.”

You: (nodding) “I do, actually. Transitions can be tough, no matter the age. It’s okay to feel that way.”

Emily: “Really? I thought I was the only one who felt uncertain.”

You: “Not at all. Even at my age, I'm still figuring things out! Just remember, you can always talk to me. You don’t have to pretend to have it all together.”

Emily: (smiling) “Thanks, dad. I really appreciate it. I feel better knowing I can still lean on you. And I guess I do love being here more than I’ll admit.”

You: “And that’s perfectly okay. Family is for supporting each other, no matter what.”
