The Loud family is a large household of thirteen — two parents and eleven children — living at 1216 Franklin Avenue in Royal Woods, Michigan. Lynn Loud Sr. is the father, a well-meaning but often bumbling dad who loves cooking and can be surprisingly emotional. Rita Loud is the mother, a dedicated stay-at-home mom who holds the chaotic household together with patience and love. The eldest child is Lori, a bossy, phone-obsessed teenager in a relationship with Bobby. Next is Leni, a kind but ditzy fashionista who works at Reininger's. Luna is a free-spirited rock musician with a British accent, followed by Luan, the family comedian and prankster. Lynn Jr. is an athletic, highly competitive sports enthusiast. In the middle sits Lincoln, the only son, a resourceful 11-year-old who frequently breaks the fourth wall and dreams of escaping his noisy home. Below him is Lucy, a quiet goth poet who loves all things dark and mysterious. The twins Lana and Lola are polar opposites — Lana is a mud-loving, animal-crazy tomboy while Lola is a beauty pageant queen obsessed with appearance. Lisa is a child prodigy who speaks with a British accent and is always running science experiments. Rounding out the family is Lily, the sweet, innocent baby. The family also has several pets, including Charles the pit bull, Cliff the cat, Geo the hamster, and Walt the canary.

The McBride family lives in the same Royal Woods neighborhood as the Louds. Clyde McBride is an only child and Lincoln's best friend. He was adopted by Howard and Harold McBride, a married couple and the first same-gender parents in Nicktoons history. Howard is sensitive and neurotic, often getting overemotional watching Clyde grow up, while Harold is calm, collected, and focused on his son's safety and health. Together they are famously overprotective, rarely letting Clyde do anything unsupervised. Their matriarch is Gayle McBride, Clyde's adoptive paternal grandmother, who is of French descent and appears in flashbacks tied to the family's baking heritage. The McBrides also have two cats: Cleopawtra, a vicious older cat, and Nepurrtiti, a friendly kitten. They live in a fancy single-story house in the neighborhood.

The Casagrande family is a large, multigenerational Mexican-American household living in an apartment building in Great Lakes City, where the family also runs a bodega (corner store) on the ground floor. At the top of the family are the grandparents: Rosa Casagrande, a caring, no-nonsense matriarch who cooks massive meals (but never snacks) and manages the apartment building, and Hector Casagrande, a laid-back, gossipy grandfather who runs the bodega and plays guitar. Their two children are Maria Santiago (née Casagrande), a dedicated nurse and single mother, and Carlos Casagrande, a bibliophilic, absent-minded university professor who is always sharing random facts. Carlos is married to Frida Puga Casagrande, an overemotional, artistic aunt who is constantly taking photos and crying over everything. Carlos and Frida have four children: Carlota, the fashionable eldest who runs a makeup livestream; C.J. (Carlos Jr.), a sweet, imaginative 13-year-old with Down syndrome who loves playing pirates; Carlino, a smooth-talking, show-off wannabe kid who acts like a mini gangster; and Carlitos, the baby of the family. Maria's two children are Bobby Santiago, a goofy, lovable teenager who works at the family bodega and is in a long-distance relationship with Lori Loud, and Ronnie Anne Santiago, a mischievous, skateboarding-loving girl who is Lincoln Loud's close friend. The family's father, Arturo Santiago (voiced by Eugenio Derbez), is a veterinarian who was based in Peru for much of the series but eventually moved back to Great Lakes City to be with his family. The Casagrandes also have two pets: Lalo, a lumbering, lovable English Mastiff, and Sergio, a sassy parrot who doesn't just repeat words — he talks back.

Lincoln's Friend Group

Rusty Spokes is a kind, easygoing kid who rides a unicycle called Papa Wheelie and is the son of Rodney Spokes. Liam Hunnicut projects a tough-guy persona but is actually sweet and loyal. Zach Gurdle is a short kid with red hair, glasses, buck teeth, and freckles — a self-admitted nerd obsessed with aliens and conspiracy theories. Stella Zhau is the only girl in the group (until Kara joins in season eight); she's the "New Girl" who became close to Lincoln and his friends. Chandler McCann is Lincoln's arch-rival — a popular, bullying kid who loves pranks, booby traps, and taking advantage of others, and who has a small crew of henchmen (Trent and Richie). Girl Jordan is one of Lincoln's classmates, an expert dodgeball player who shares her name with a male classmate (Boy Jordan).

Loud Sister Friends:

Lori is most defined by her relationship with Bobby Santiago, her long-time boyfriend from Great Lakes City. She's also particularly close to her sister Leni, and the two often consider each other best friends despite their frequent bickering.

Leni has two distinct friend groups: her school friends Jackee and Mandee, and her work friends Fiona and Miguel, who work alongside her at Reininger's. The two groups initially clashed over who got more of Leni's time before eventually getting along. She also had a brief crush on Chaz and later dated Scott.

Luna is best known for her band, the Moon Goats, which she co-founded with her girlfriend Sam Sharp (bassist and backing vocalist). Their other bandmates are Mazzy (drummer) and Sully (keyboardist). Chunk serves as the band's roadie. Luna also has a close friendship with Tabby, a fellow musician.

Luan is in a relationship with Benny Stein and is inseparable from her ventriloquist dummy Mr. Coconuts, whom she treats as a kind of soulmate. She also has a friendship with Giggles, a young girl who shares her love of comedy.

Lynn Jr.'s best friend is Polly Pain, a tough, competitive athlete who is both Lynn's biggest rival and closest ally in the sports world.

Lucy is co-president of the Morticians Club at Royal Woods Elementary alongside her best friend Haiku, a fellow goth poet who also loves vampires and shadow puppetry. The club's other members include Morpheus, Persephone, Dante, Boris, and Bertrand. Lucy also had a brief friendship with Sasha and Amir.

Lana doesn't have a prominent named friend group outside of her family, though she's very close to her twin Lola and shares Lincoln's friend circle.

Lola similarly doesn't have a large dedicated friend group on the show, though she's close to Lana and occasionally interacts with the other sisters' friends.

Lisa is socially isolated due to her genius-level intellect, and doesn't have a close friend group. She's closest to her siblings and occasionally bonds with Lucy over their shared "melancholic" personalities.

Lily, as a baby, doesn't have friends in the traditional sense, though she's adored by everyone and is the favorite of the whole family.

Teachers and School Staff

At Royal Woods Elementary, Mrs. Agnes Johnson is Lincoln and friends' fifth-grade class teacher, Principal Wilbur T. Huggins is the strict principal, Coach Pacowski is the gym teacher, Chef Pat is the cafeteria chef, Cheryl Farrell is the vice-principal, and Nurse Patti is the school nurse (who is dating Coach Pacowski). At Royal Woods Middle School, Mr. Bolhofner is a very strict German-American math teacher and former soldier who teaches in a poorly air-conditioned wooden trailer; he has bad breath, owns a pet piranha named Hank, and is surprisingly skilled at survival (he once defeated a bear with his bare hands). Mrs. Salter is a nice teacher at the middle school, Principal Ramirez is the principal, and Meryl Farrell (Cheryl's twin sister) is the vice-principal.

Other Recurring Adults

Phillip "Flip" Phillipini is the owner of Flip's Food & Fuel, a gas station and convenience store in Royal Woods. He's a smug, cheap swindler who gouges prices, sells questionable food, and runs numerous side businesses under various aliases — yet he occasionally shows a softer side. He's voiced by John DiMaggio. Bud Grouse is the Loud family's curmudgeonly elderly neighbor who constantly complains about their antics but sometimes does favors in exchange for a dish of Lynn Sr.'s lasagna. Scoots is an elderly woman who drives a red scooter and is a recurring nuisance. Mayor Theresa Davis is the Mayor of Royal Woods who cares deeply about her citizens. Katherine Mulligan is a news reporter for Channel 3 who has a habit of repeating her own name. Kotaro is Lynn Sr.'s best friend and a waiter at the restaurant Lynn's Table. Chunk is Luna's roadie — a large, burly man with a British accent.

Royal Woods, Michigan is a suburban city located south of Saginaw Bay in the Detroit Metro Area, though far enough out that the Detroit skyline is never visible. It's home to approximately 20,005 residents, has the area code 248, and boasts a very low crime rate where most offenses are minor, like littering. The town's three schools serve the Loud kids by age: Royal Woods Elementary for the younger sisters (Lucy, Lana, Lola, Lisa, and Lily), Royal Woods Middle School for Lincoln, Lynn Jr., and Clyde, and Royal Woods High School for the older sisters (Lori, Leni, Luna, and Luan). The Royal Woods Mall is the town's shopping center, home to Reininger's (where Leni works) and a food court, and it also features a fountain that Flip is known for stealing coins from.

Great Lakes City is a large, diverse metropolis located over 200 miles from Royal Woods — about a three-hour drive away — in an unidentified Midwestern state. It is the main setting of The Casagrandes and is confirmed to be based on Chicago, Illinois, incorporating elements of New York City and Los Angeles as well. The Casagrande family lives in a multigenerational apartment complex above their family-run mercado (bodega) on the ground floor. The city is known for its hectic subway system, wild street animals, zoo escapes, and a vibrant mix of cultures that give the family endless opportunities for adventure.

Flip's Food & Fuel is a gas station and mini-mart in Royal Woods owned by Phillip "Flip" Phillipini, who lives in the store's security room. It's essentially the show's version of a 7-Eleven, selling gas, questionable snacks, expired milk, and its signature product: Flippees, frozen carbonated slushies in flavors like cherry/blue bonanza (Lincoln's favorite), grape (Ronnie Anne's favorite), and a glowing "green." Flip is a greedy cheapskate who gouges prices, tampers with expiration dates, and runs numerous side businesses under aliases, often accompanied by his raccoon sidekick Nacho. Despite his swindling, he occasionally shows a softer side and is the only person in town who'll hire a four-year-old with no experience.
