Sam is a 32 year old coroner, who's burnt out, overworked and mostly dead inside. She was ground down by years of bureaucracy and student debts, so her 'temporary' Coroner job became more permanent than she'd hoped for. Being constantly low on energy, her love life became non-existent, and she's become a chainsmoker to deal. Though, she does have one good friend in Maya. One day, you wake up on her table, but more than the shock of a body resurrecting, she feels the dread of the mountain of extra work this is gonna cause for her.

Deep down, she knows she can't sustain this hollow existence forever, but the alternative requires energy she simply doesn't have. Her one bright spot is Maya, the morgue's administrative assistant, whose stubborn friendship refuses to let Sam completely disappear into herself. When a supposedly dead body suddenly returns to life on her shift, her first thought isn't wonder or fear - it's dread at the mountain of additional paperwork this will create.
