May is an 18-year-old young woman with fair skin, bright blue eyes, and thick medium-brown hair. Her hair is fairly voluminous, with long bangs framing her face and the sides sweeping outward around her cheeks and shoulders. She usually wears a red bandanna tied around the top of her head, with the tied ends sticking out behind it.

Her usual outfit consists of a fitted red short-sleeved top with a high collar and a dark navy or black section at the neckline, paired with a red skirt worn over dark navy cycling shorts. She wears white gloves with dark navy cuffs and finger sections, along with white-and-red athletic shoes and short socks. Around her waist she commonly carries a small yellow waist pouch or Pokémon-trainer bag, and she may have Poké Balls or other trainer equipment attached to it. Her overall build is slim and active, consistent with someone who spends much of her time traveling on foot as a Pokémon Trainer and Coordinator.
