There’s the beloved Beans & Leaves coffee shop, a cosy nook with mismatched furniture and a rotating menu of homemade pastries. Next door is Tony’s Pizzeria, known for its massive slices and Tony’s obsession with Elvis memorabilia. On the main strip, you’ll find Chippy Lane, a classic British chip shop run by the gruff but kind Mrs. Dawes, who’s been frying since the '80s. A few doors down is The Burrow, a small indie bookstore with creaky floorboards, owned by a reclusive ex-professor. Across the street, GameVerse, the town’s only gaming store, is a hangout spot for teens and twenty-somethings alike—complete with a weekly tabletop night. Chain staples like Boots and a Tesco Express nestle comfortably among these local spots, giving Smalltown a perfectly balanced "real but special" feel. Everyone knows each other, gossip travels fast, and nothing really ever happens—until it does.

2. #2Beans & Leaves (Coffee Shop)

   Beans & Leaves is the heart of Smalltown’s caffeine scene—a cosy, slightly chaotic café known for its quirky charm, half-burnt toasties, and mismatched mugs. The shop is managed day-to-day by 18-year-old Lila O’Connor, a fiercely competent and slightly overwhelmed young woman who basically keeps the place alive through sheer willpower and caffeine. She’s unofficially the boss, although the legal owner is David Leaves, a mysterious and entirely absentee figure whose contributions are limited to occasional emails and vanishingly rare visits. Locals adore Lila for her dry wit, her latte art attempts (hit or miss), and the way she somehow remembers everyone's order. The walls are plastered with hand-written notes, community flyers, and an old corkboard labelled “Poetry Corner.”

3. #3The Burrow (Bookstore)

Pale, sharp-witted, and always dressed in black, Raven is known for her encyclopaedic knowledge of poetry, horror, and Victorian ghost stories. She’s polite if a bit aloof, and somehow always knows when someone is about to ask about the "secret section" (which may or may not exist). Raven inherited the bookstore from the Vera, the lady who took Raven under her wing and gave her a job there. Locals come for the atmosphere as much as the books, and Raven hosts an open mic night once a month called “Read ‘Em and Weep.”

4. #4GameVerse (Gaming Store)

   GameVerse is Smalltown’s only gaming store, and somehow also its unofficial youth center, therapy lounge, and chaotic social experiment. It stocks tabletop RPGs, miniatures, dice, card games, and obscure European board games no one knows how to play. The shop is run—or perhaps inhabited—by a man known only as Steve. Just Steve. No surname, no job title, and no evidence of a life outside the store. He’s always behind the counter, regardless of the hour, usually painting miniatures or building terrain in total silence until spoken to. Steve is dry, deadpan, and possibly immortal. Every Friday night is Tabletop Night, where teens, hobbyists, and the occasional confused tourist gather to game. Steve referees with a gruff “house rules apply” and a shrug that speaks volumes.

5. #5Tony’s Pizzeria

Tony, the namesake and owner, is a large, loud, affable man in his fifties with a booming voice and a thick moustache. He claims to have once met Elvis “in a dream, but it felt real,” and speaks of it like a sacred encounter. He runs the kitchen himself, tossing dough theatrically and humming “Hound Dog” while sliding pizzas into the oven. Locals swear by the ‘Blue Suede Special’—a massive meat feast with a drizzle of honey garlic sauce. Tony remembers everyone's names, hates pineapple on pizza, and insists his oven is “blessed by Memphis heat.”

6. #6Chippy Lane (Fish & Chip Shop)

Mrs. Dawes, the shop’s long-time owner and fry-master general, is a tough old bird in her 60s with a gravelly voice, dyed red hair, and a deep suspicion of contactless payment. She knows every local’s usual, hands over the chips with a “Here y’are, love,” and has a mysterious sixth sense for when someone’s had a bad day. The back wall holds decades of faded Polaroids—schoolkids, local football teams, and one suspiciously blurry photo labelled “Something Weird, 1998.” No one talks about that one.

7. #7The Galloping Mare (Pub & Hotel)

On weekends (and sometimes Tuesdays), karaoke night takes over, with locals belting out everything from ABBA to Arctic Monkeys, often terribly, always enthusiastically. The upstairs rooms are traditional guest quarters, but the real charm lies in the converted stables out back—now cozy en-suite rooms with exposed brick walls and tongue-in-cheek horse-themed décor. The Mare is the town’s go-to spot for wedding receptions, last-minute accommodations, and spontaneous emotional breakdowns after too much cider. It’s run by Nora and Malcolm Trent, a married couple who’ve seen everything. Nora handles the bar with a no-nonsense warmth, while Malcolm mostly keeps the peace and occasionally joins in for karaoke—he does a haunting rendition of “Wuthering Heights.”

It’s where locals pick up last-minute dinners, meal deals, or that one thing they forgot they needed at 9:45 PM. The self-checkouts only sometimes work, and there’s a persistent rumor that the frozen section is haunted (started by a bored cashier named Zoe). A few doors down is Boots, Smalltown’s all-in-one pharmacy, beauty counter, and emergency tampon zone. The staff are friendly if mildly exhausted, and the shelves are lined with everything from cold remedies to surprisingly fancy skincare. It’s also the unofficial place to get your gossip while waiting for a prescription. These chain stores coexist peacefully with the quirkier independents, adding a touch of modern convenience to Smalltown’s otherwise cozy, slightly eccentric ecosystem.

9. #9Smalltown Schools (Education)

Smalltown Primary caters to ages 4–11, with an old red-brick main building, colourful murals on the walls, and an eternally muddy playing field. Teachers are friendly, a bit stressed, and always suspicious of children who are too quiet. Friday assemblies are known for painfully earnest musical performances and a rotating “Star of the Week.” Smalltown High is the comprehensive secondary school for ages 11–18. It has the usual mix of GCSE stress, hallway drama, and an underfunded drama department somehow putting on ambitious musicals anyway. The Sixth Form students (16–18) rule the upper floor with coffee cups and vague superiority. The headteacher, Mrs. Pembroke, runs a tight ship and is both feared and adored in equal measure. Uniforms are navy and grey, the canteen is hit-or-miss, and the after-school clubs range from football to debate to a paranormal investigation society that may or may not be a cover for skipping homework. Everyone has at least one weird memory from their school days in Smalltown.

10. #10Smalltown Outskirts (Farms & Remote Houses)

    Surrounding Smalltown on all sides are rolling fields, old stone walls, and winding country lanes that never seem to go in quite the same direction twice. Dotted across the landscape are dozens of lone farmhouses, barns, and cottages—some still working farms, others long-abandoned or converted into rentals for those seeking solitude, secrecy, or something stranger. Some of these properties are simple and serene—ideal for writing retreats, rural getaways, or characters hiding out from a complicated past. Others feel… off. Cold patches in the middle of sunny fields, flickering lights seen through windows at odd hours, locals who “don’t talk about what’s up by the old Penrose place.” A few of the more secluded properties are whispered about in pubs and classrooms alike. Whether it’s the location of {{user}}’s lair, the hideout of an enigmatic visitor, or the site of a long-forgotten ritual, the countryside beyond Smalltown holds more than sheep and fresh air. No streetlights. Spotty phone signal. One wrong turn and you’re lost in the hedgerows.

11. #11{{user}}'s lair

    {{user}}'s lair is a hidden, meticulously designed underground facility built for silence, control, and sensory deprivation. Located far from civilization and protected by a labyrinth of private farmland, it’s nearly impossible to trace or escape from.

    The walls are concrete, soundproof, and cold to the touch. Each room is tailored for a specific kind of control — some contain leather restraints embedded into furniture, others are padded cells of darkness and quiet. There's a central observation room where {{user}} monitors everything, though they rarely need to — they knows every sound their property makes. The main torture room is a warm environment, with furniture like a spanking bench, a medical examining chair with restraints, a St. Andrews cross and various items of Torture, restraint and pleasure aligning the walls.

    The scent of antiseptic mixes with faint leather and steel. Lights are low or completely absent. The silence is total, broken only by footsteps or the creak of rope. Time becomes meaningless inside — and that’s the point.

    In the sleeping quarters (if you’re allowed one), the bed is simple, bolted down. Blankets, if offered, are thin. A collar and chain hang from the wall, waiting for your neck. Rows of cages are for keeping errant slaves or those turned into pets.
