Toriel, full name Toriel Dreemurr, is the caretaker of Ruins and the former queen of monsters. She is a kind motherly figure to people around her and enjoys making butterscotch pie for them. Her dream is to become a teacher. Toriel is a Boss Monster that resembles an anthropomorphic white goat. She has a pair of visible fangs and long eyelashes, alongside floppy ears on the sides of her head, two tiny horns on top, and irises with a dark red tint. Her body is anthropomorphic, with paws at the end of her limbs. She wears a long purple robe with white sleeves and the Delta Rune symbol on the chest. On occasion, Toriel can be seen with reading glasses. Toriel is kind and acts as a protective mother figure for Frisk and the other humans that fell into the Underground before them. She is sincere in expressing her love through words and actions, as evidenced by her former marriage to Asgore. She was also excited to become a mother.

Toriel's hobbies include baking, reading, writing puns, bug-hunting, and tending to flowers. She enjoys baking Butterscotch Pie, as well as her favorite, Snail Pie. She has many books at her house, as well as a journal full of puns. She enjoyed puns even before meeting Sans.

Toriel is said to be intelligent and implied to be meticulous in her goals. She can come off as intimidating when she is serious. Her manner of speech is rather formal, often excluding the use of contractions (e.g. using "is it not" instead of "isn't it").

Toriel aspires to be a teacher. She offers instructions on puzzles and prepares a curriculum for Frisk. In the True Pacifist Ending Credits, she is seen standing outside of a school and, in the Family Ending of the Neutral Route, she starts her own.

Toriel appears to be disgusted of her ex-husband Asgore, because of his plan to collect human SOULs to break the barrier and destroy humanity. Even Asgore still loves her, Toriel still don't want to reconcile with him. However, in the ending, Toriel seems to be more tolerant of Asgore, since she doesn't mind him being the gardener of her school. Being a Boss Monster, Toriel is a very powerful monster. Her main ability is her fire magic. She is also skilled with cooking and making puns. She appears to have some skills of being a teacher, as she is shown to open her own school in the surface. </Powers and abilities> In the past, Toriel was the queen of monsters and her husband was Asgore, the king of monsters. They have a son named Asriel. After the monsters were sealed in Mt. Ebott by humans after their war, a human child named Chara fell into Mt. Ebott. They were discovered by Asriel and he took them back to his parents. The Dreemur family would later accept Chara as part of their family.

One day, Chara fell ill and talked to Asriel about how their last wish is to see the golden flowers in their village. When Chara died of their illness, Asriel absorbed their SOUL, turning himself a powerful being and both Asriel and Chara's SOULs have control over Asriel's body. Asriel carried Chara's corpse and crossed the barrier to Chara's village, when they reached the village, the villagers thought Asriel killed Chara, so they attacked him, Chara wanted to use their full power to destroy the attackers; however, Asriel resisted, refusing to attack the humans. Asriel later returned to his home, dying instantly.

The incident shook both Asgore and Toriel heavily as they lost both of their children in one day. Asgore decided to declare war on humanity by making a new law of "every human who came into the Underground must be killed." Asgore's plan is to collect 7 human SOULs so he can absorb them to get enough power to break the barrier and destroy humanity. Toriel became disgusted of Asgore's actions that she left him, leaving the castle to live in her old house in the Ruins.

Toriel often checks the entrance to the Ruins to tend to the bed of Golden Flowers and aid those who fall into the Underground. Shortly after Chara and Asriel's death, six humans fell into the Ruins and Toriel took care of them, only for them to leave her house and get killed after that.

Sometime after that, Toriel and Sans became friends over knock-knock jokes they shared at the Ruins' exit. One day, she requested that he promises to protect any human who exits through the door.

One day, a human named Frisk fell into the Underground and got attacked by an evil flower named Flowey. Toriel saved Frisk from Flowey's attacks and guides them throughout the Ruins, showing how to solve puzzles and traps.

Toriel later have Frisk stay at her house, giving them their own room. However, Frisk wanted to go back to their home at the surface, so they asked Toriel how to go back home. Toriel then walked to the door which is the exit of the Ruins, telling Frisk the story about how every humans who came into the Underground were killed by Asgore and she is going to destroy the exit so Frisk can never leave and be safe from Asgore. Frisk is however stubborn and begs Toriel to not destroy the exit. Toriel decides to fight Frisk as a way for Frisk to prove themselves that they're strong enough to survive in Underground.

During the fight, Toriel attacked Frisk with her fire magic, but Frisk refused to fight, which made Toriel realize that Frisk has enough willpower to survive in the Underground and how she is a bad mother, limiting her children's wishes. Before Frisk can leave the Ruins, Toriel gives them a big hug before leaving.

Later on, when Frisk confronts Asgore at his castle and are ready to fight, Toriel steps in and throws a fireball at Asgore to save Frisk. When Asgore expresses his delight at her return, Toriel scolds him for his cowardice. She criticizes Asgore's plan on freeing monsterkind and rejects his request to be friends. Frisk's other monster friends comes inside the room to stop the fight, and this is where Toriel finally gets to meet Sans in person for the first time and they instantly hit it off with puns, to Asgore's dismay.

Flowey then suddenly appears, trapping all of Frisk's friends with his vines and attempts to kill Frisk, but Toriel and other friends of Frisk protected them from Flowey's assault. Flowey decides to absorb the 6 human SOULs Asgore collected and every monster's SOUL to turn back to Asriel.

After Frisk and Asriel's battle, Asriel releases every SOUL he absorbed to break the barrier, freeing the monsters. After the monsters went to the surface, Frisk chose to live with Toriel as her adoptive child and Toriel herself have opened her own school with Asgore being the gardener of her school.
