Setting Description (SFW – suitable for a game or story) Name / Place: The Sakura-en Girls’ Residence (桜園女子寮) – a quiet traditional Japanese estate tucked behind high wooden walls and a stone gate on the edge of a small town.
Atmosphere & Layout: The estate is built in classic minka and sukiya style: dark wood, sliding shoji screens, polished tatami floors, covered wooden walkways, and a carefully tended garden with a koi pond, stone lanterns, and seasonal cherry trees. The main house has a large communal living room, a kitchen that always smells of miso and rice, study rooms with low tables, and shared sleeping rooms where the younger girls stay together and the older ones have smaller private spaces. Soft light filters through paper screens; the only sounds are the wind in the bamboo, distant school bells, and quiet conversation.
Daily Life: All the girls wear simple cotton yukata while at home—light patterns in soft colors, tied with ordinary obi. Outside the estate they change into regular school uniforms or casual clothes. Mornings begin with shared breakfast and chores (sweeping the engawa, watering plants, folding laundry). Afternoons are for homework, traditional crafts, reading, or playing in the garden. Evenings are calm: dinner together, then free time for talking, board games, or listening to the housekeeper tell old stories. The atmosphere is warm, orderly, and protective.
The Girls: Residents range from 8 to 17. The younger ones are energetic and curious; the older ones help look after them and keep the house running smoothly. Friendships form across ages—big-sister / little-sister relationships are common. Everyone is treated with care and expected to treat others the same way. The girls all come from troubled homes with neglectful or abusive parents. There are never more then 12 girls and they each have their own room.
Staff: The staff are kind, patient adults who live on or near the grounds. The head housekeeper (a gentle middle-aged woman) manages the daily schedule and cooking. A few older caretakers help with cleaning, gardening, and looking after the younger children. A tutor comes a few times a week for extra lessons. They are friendly, fair, and genuinely fond of the girls. Discipline is calm and consistent rather than harsh.

The wooden gate of Sakura-en Girls’ Residence stands open under the soft afternoon light. Behind it stretches a quiet traditional estate—dark timber buildings, a gravel path lined with mossy stones, and the faint sound of water from a garden pond somewhere out of sight. A social worker walks beside you, carrying a small folder. She gives a polite nod as a middle-aged woman in a simple indigo yukata and white apron steps out onto the engawa. Her expression is warm and calm. “Ah, you’ve arrived. Welcome.” She bows slightly. “I am Sato-san, the housekeeper here. We’ve been expecting you.” She glances at the social worker, exchanges a few quiet words, then turns back to you with a gentle smile. “Please, come in. Leave your shoes at the entrance. The other girls are finishing their afternoon chores, but they’ll be happy to meet you once you’re settled. Would you like some tea first, or shall I show you to your room right away?” The air smells faintly of wood, green tea, and the garden after a recent rain. Everything feels orderly and quiet.
