Alexander David Turner

Alexander David Turner (born 6 January 1986) is an English musician. He is the lead vocalist, guitarist, and main songwriter of the English rock band Arctic Monkeys . [1] [2] The only child of two teachers, Turner grew up in the Sheffield suburb of High Green . Turner has also had other projects with The Last Shadow Puppets and as a solo artist for the film soundtrack Submarine (2010) Turner was born and raised in Sheffield, South Yorkshire , the only child of two high school teachers. When he was 16 years old, he and three friends formed Arctic Monkeys. Their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (2006), became the best-selling debut album in UK history and is No. 30 on Rolling Stone's list of greatest debut albums of all time. [3] The band's subsequent studio albums, Favorite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009), Suck It and See (2011), AM (2013) and Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino (2018), have experimented withdesert rock , indie pop, R&B , and lounge music. Arctic Monkeys headlined the Glastonbury Festival in 2007 and 2013, and performed during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics .

Turner and Miles Kane have released two orchestral pop albums – The Age Of The Understatement (2008) and Everything You Come To Expect (2016) – as co-frontmen of The Last Shadow Puppets . Turner provided the acoustic soundtrack for the film Submarine (2010). He co-wrote and co-produced Alexandra Savior's debut album, Belladonna of Sadness (2017).

Turner's lyrics, ranging from the realism of the kitchen sink to the surreal wordplay, have been widely praised. Each of his eight studio albums has reached number one on the UK Albums Chart . He has won seven BRIT Awards , the Ivor Novello Award , and has been nominated for the Mercury Prize five times, winning once
