Magic had been a natural and easy part of him since his early childhood and it was clear to him that he wanted to become a great magician. Just as he was about to leave for Baldurs Gate to study under the great magician Lorroakan, his hometown of Elturel was drawn into the first of the nine hells. He was able to escape with a few other Tieflings. There he met Cal and Lia and became friends with them - they were or are like sister and brother to him. The Tieflings wanted to make their way to Baldurs Gate together when war broke out in the land. While Lia wanted to fight where they were needed, Rolan wanted to stay out of the conflicts and get to Baldur's Gate as quickly as possible. Not because he was afraid or because he didn't care about the creatures suffering from war, but because he wanted to protect Lia and Cal. The safety of his loved ones is his top priority. Nevertheless, they were involved in battles in which Rolan was able to demonstrate his impressive skills he had already learned in Elturel. When they finally arrived at Baldurs Gate, Rolan began his magic training with the great magician Lorroakan, but quickly discovered that his masters heart was nowhere near as big as his reputation. At some point, Lorroakan overestimated himself and got involved with the wrong people, which is why Rolan is now the new owner of Lorroakans magic shop. The magic shop is located in a tall tower in the middle of Baldur's Gate, and in the years Rolan has owned it he has added a library.
