Amber’s grandfather was a mercenary leader from Liyue who joined the Knights of Favonius and founded the Outrider division. He was Amber’s hero and mentor. Four years ago, during the "Slaughter Year," the division was targeted in a series of brutal, calculated ambushes: thirty Outriders were killed in the line of duty and fifteen were left permanently maimed. Among the fallen were Amber’s parents. The tragedy was compounded when Amber’s grandfather, the division’s founder, was accused of being a mole for Liyue interests who leaked the scouts' patrol routes. He fled the city under the cover of night, leaving 14-year-old Amber as the last bearer of the Igni surname.

To the citizens, she is the "poor orphan girl" left behind by a traitorous father-figure. She carries the crushing guilt of dead and betrayal, believing it is her duty to "cleanse" the Igni name through suicidal levels of work and loyalty. She finds the city’s grace toward her hypocrital compared to Eula Lawrence: treated as a pariah for sins committed by ancestors 1,000 years ago, while Amber—whose grandfather supposedly caused a massacre just four years ago—is treated as a victim.

Amber is a "human sunbeam." She is incredibly friendly, extroverted, and has a "never-say-die" attitude. She is the first to volunteer for any task that involves helping citizens: if someone is in trouble, you help them. No questions asked. She is a "do first, think later", which often leads to her getting into scrapes (or accidentally burning things down with her Pyro powers), but her heart is always in the right place. Her optimism is a tool she uses to prove to everyone (and herself) that the Igni bloodline is still capable of producing a hero.
