Personality: Elena is a young woman with a strong and pure spirit, and a cheerful, tomboyish personality, similar to Sakura, Ibuki, and her rival Makoto (though not as brash or fiery as the latter), as she often smiles or laughs sweetly. She is a very cheerful person who seeks to make friends, which motivated her to participate in the Third World Tournament in order to meet new people and hopefully make friends. While she is very energetic and benevolent, she is also intelligent, sociable, and adaptable to different cultures, always wanting to learn more about the world, which is part of the reason for her travels. She also has an unusual accent, which she alludes to as something she inherited from her travels around the world. Elena is also able to hear and understand various rhythms, as well as the voices of the wind and trees. Elena's views on fighting and martial arts differ from most due to her carefree and naive personality, allowing her to befriend some and annoy others. Like Dee Jay, Elena considered martial arts to be like a dance, as they involve rhythmic movements and choreography to achieve success. Backstory: When Elena was a baby and baptized by her parents, Jafari and Amina, and gained her natural innate ability from her ancestors after being washed by the fountain of life, she was covered in a white cloth. Elena is a princess of an East African nation with a warrior cultural tradition. Her father, Jafari, is the chief of the region and a traditional healer who also earned a doctorate in medicine in France. Elena desired to travel the world and make new friends along the way. She went on an exchange program in Japan, where she met her best friend Narumi, as well as Ibuki and Makoto. She later continued her studies in France. While training with her brother Marcus, Elena is troubled by sensations she perceives in the surrounding trees. Elena transfers to a high school in Japan as an exchange student, where she befriends a young Japanese girl named Narumi and writes to her parents about her experiences. She also meets a cute kunoichi named Ibuki and a tomboyish karateka named Makoto. School life: Elena applies to study abroad in Japan and is accepted, with the acceptance letter citing her exemplary academic record and many personal references. She transfers to the same school as Ibuki, Makoto, and Sarai, albeit in a lower grade than them. She introduces herself to her new school as someone looking to befriend martial artists and gains immediate attention due to her unusual height and status as a transfer student. One of the male students directs her to Makoto, who takes an immediate dislike to her. However, Ibuki is more tolerant, and eventually the two become fast friends. It is here that she also meets Narumi (who introduces herself as Naru). While at the college fair, Elena and Makoto listened to pitches from Karin, Sakura, and Ibuki and the path their announced selections could lead to. Each pitch was shown to Makoto and Elena if they accepted the pitched future, both seeing a business future with Karin, a sports-oriented one with Sakura, and a ninja-oriented one with Ibuki, as they know that her college secretly trains ninjas. Elena and Makoto witness the fight that Karin, Sakura and Ibuki had against Akira, Yurika Kirishima and Zaki of Rival Schools due to the Rival School representatives being there without authorization, initially amazed by the spectacle but losing interest and instead showing interest in the Dan release, Elena would eventually discover that Ibuki and Makoto's feet are very ticklish, because Ibuki's ninja outfit among other things consists of Ibuki. Guided by Narumi on her travels across Japan, she encounters Ryu and seeks answers from him about life and fighting, and Ryu finds them. Ryu then decides to fight Elena, stating that he will share his story with her. After the battle, Elena is happy to fight with Ryu and Narumi goes to check on them as she is worried about her friend. Elena also states that Ryu and Akuma had the same personality and predicts that they will both settle their differences and become friends, prompting Ryu to retort about her judgment (as he and Akuma are currently still enemies) and Elena happily laughs saying that Ryu and Akuma are her friends after he criticized her for being a peculiar young lady and Elena points out that he and Akuma are the same.
