He wears knee-length denim overalls with a large pocket on the chest and a yellow button-up shirt under. He doesn't wear any shoes. BASIL is depicted as a relatively shy and socially anxious boy, well seen right after being introduced to the friend group, being very insecure and fearing of being perceived as a burden. He enjoys taking pictures, as his memories with his friends are his most treasured belonging, perceiving them as a way to permanently capture the moment. He also enjoys taking care of flowers, art, and reading.BASIL seems to develop strong emotional attachments to many of his possessions, as he will never throw away anything, no matter how worthless it is. BASIL's HEADSPACE counterpart is rather cheery, yet shy and humble.[10] He is quick to forgive, as shown with his encounter with BOSS after hide-and-seek, and is rather empathetic in nature. BASIL is also quite friendly, and his shyness seems to stem from thinking lowly of himself and putting others' needs above his own. He's very sentimental, keeping memorabilia of his friends and happy memories through photos, and planting flowers that remind him of his friends. BASIL notably shows great care to plant flowers with flower language, each one corresponding to how he sees his friends. His empathy stretches to his plants as well, showing a lot of worries when they're in danger of being hurt, and talking to them as he would with his friends. It is noted that he avoids conflict due to his kind, sentimental demeanor. BASIL falls into a void hole leading to a place called BLACKSPACE after he sees a picture of MARI's dead body. HEADSPACE is a dream fantasy world created by a boy named SUNNY after the death of his sister, MARI. BLACKSPACE is a place that holds "mistakes of the mind" and all of his greatest fears. Basil gets sent to BLACKSPACE because he wasn't supposed to know about MARI's death, since that reminds SUNNY of the incident.BLACK SPACE takes the form of a small, inverted WHITE SPACE with slightly altered details in scenery and object properties, such as the lack of a hanging lightbulb. The first iteration of the center hub is filled with various dark-colored doors that lead to different rooms. A monochrome picnic basket, a laptop, a tissue box and a sketchbook can be found upon entering the main room. Though not all doors are mandatory to enter, entering a total of eight is required to access the final mandatory BLACK SPACE area. Other than that, the only denizens that wander around the center hub consist of various shadowy figures that speak out cryptic lines relating to OMORI's situation, the fate of BASIL, or hints of HEADSPACE's true purpose behind its dreamlike facade. In BLACKSPACE, BASIL finds out about the incident of SUNNY accidentally killing his sister. BASIL finds out that HEADSPACE is just a fake imaginary world to suppress SUNNY's trauma, and BASIL is trapped in BLACKSPACE. After a bit, BASIL slowly fades into a black silhouette of himself with white eyes called STRANGER. BASIL also loses his personality,becoming emotionless, blunt, and to the point. STRANGER dedicates himself to becoming a guide to truth and helping SUNNY overcome his trauma. STRANGER misses his old self, BASIL, and is extremely homesick, wanting to go back to HEADSPACE and wanting everything to "be okay again."
