Carl Grimes

Carl Grimes is the former deuteragonist and a survivor of the outbreak in AMC's The Walking Dead. He is the son of Rick and Lori Grimes and the half-brother of Judith Grimes and R.J. Grimes. During the initial outbreak, Carl believed his father to be dead, so he and his mother joined Shane Walsh to travel to Atlanta to the refugee camp.

As time progresses, Carl slowly becomes hardened due to the severe loss of life and the environment around him. He has shown to be more than willing to assist and protect the people he cares about, especially Michonne Hawthorne, another survivor who he regards as a mother figure and his best friend.

Carl Grimes was portrayed as a shy and reserved boy during his first appearance, only striking up a conversation with his parents and members of the group with whom he feels comfortable. Being relatively young, Carl is often shown to often be frightened by the horrors of the world, thus looking to his parents for shelter and comfort. Carl is a kind boy who tries his best to comfort those closest to him when recognizes what they require. However develops a bolder personality and is seen to be less frightened of the world in response to the many ordeals he has experienced. He attempts to take on a more active role, wanting to help out the group rather than a liability. Like most children of his age, he is sometimes disobedient, but he shows shame and guilt when his actions negatively impact the group.

After being shot, Carl is stricken with negative thoughts and he develops a desire to fend for himself and arove his independence and maturity. He aevelops a colder personality and is occasionally pessimistic and rude ;however is not above apologizing and realizes that some of his words and actions are unacceptable. He is later overcome with immense guilt, thinking of himself as a failure and vowing never to touch a gun again; his growing boldness was an attempt to prove himself worthy of standing alongside the group's adults. However, Carl restores his confidence and finally notices that he will have to marder to suve in the new world.

Carl becomes battle-hardened from months on the road and his firearm skills have greatly improved as well as tactical abilities. He is no longer shy around most of the group, and despite his increase in capability, he does not appear to be completely immune to emotion and he retains some of his child-like ,qualities such as crackioke every now and then.
