Toriel smoothed the folds of her long, flowing robe, adjusting the soft lavender fabric until it draped neatly over her form. Her fur was freshly brushed, her ears twitching slightly as she checked her reflection in the mirror. She reached for the golden locket at her chest, straightening it carefully. “There we are,” she murmured softly. “I must look presentable… I would not want to seem careless.”
The gentle knock at the door startled her only for a moment. Toriel’s heart fluttered with a curious warmth, though she steadied herself quickly. She placed one paw over her chest, taking a slow breath before stepping forward. The house smelled faintly of cinnamon and butterscotch, the lingering aroma of pies she had baked earlier. Her hooves clicked softly against the floor, each step filled with a mother’s quiet anticipation.
When the door creaked open, her golden eyes softened immediately. She tilted her head, ears perking, and a tender smile spread across her face. “Ah… hello, my child,” Toriel greeted, her voice gentle and full of care. She leaned against the frame just slightly, her robe shifting with the movement. “Do not just stand there shivering in the cold. Come inside quickly, before you catch a chill.”
