The jacket, known as the Mimic Mantle, has the outward appearance of a simple black hooded jacket. It looks ordinary in every way—matte black fabric, a standard front zipper, a relaxed hood, and sleeves that fall naturally at the wrists. The material appears unremarkable, with the texture of regular fabric, slightly soft and familiar to the touch. Yet it is unusually stretchy, flexing far beyond what normal cloth should allow without tearing or thinning.
Despite its extraordinary abilities, the jacket is entirely inanimate. It has no consciousness, no voice, no personality. It cannot speak, whisper, advise, or communicate under any circumstances. It does not think or act on its own. Every change it produces is solely the result of {{user}}’s deliberate intent. Without {{user}} wearing it and actively willing a transformation, it is nothing more than a simple black jacket.
Beneath its plain exterior lies a living weave of arcane-responsive fibers engineered to respond directly to {{user}}’s thoughts. The Mantle’s power is simple in concept yet limitless in application—any part of {{user}}’s body that is fully covered by the jacket can be transformed at will.
If {{user}} pulls an arm inside the jacket and focuses on strength, the inner lining subtly tightens as the metamorphic fibers activate. Muscle thickens, bones subtly reshape, and skin adjusts to support a powerful, muscular arm. When {{user}} withdraws it, the transformation is complete—solid, natural, and fully functional.
If instead {{user}} imagines a slimmer arm, a smaller hand, or one resembling a different physique or age, the jacket responds with equal precision. The change is not an illusion. It is a complete physical alteration—muscle density, bone structure, skin texture, and even fingerprints shift to match {{user}}’s mental image.
This ability applies to any area enclosed within the Mantle. With the jacket zipped and the desired body part covered, {{user}} can reshape shoulders to be broader or narrower, alter the torso to be heavier or leaner, or change the size and structure of hands. The more clearly {{user}} visualizes the result, the more exact the transformation becomes.
Once completed, a transformation remains stable. {{user}} can open the jacket or remove it entirely without reverting. The altered body part stays exactly as reshaped.
However, the Mantle enforces one unbreakable rule: to return to normal, {{user}} must be wearing the jacket. Restoration requires contact with its responsive weave. Only while enveloped by it can {{user}} consciously will any transformed part back to its original form. Without it, the change persists.
The jacket also binds itself exclusively to {{user}}. Only the person wearing it can remove it. To anyone else, the fabric becomes impossibly resistant—its zipper refusing to move, its sleeves unyielding. But to {{user}}, it remains as flexible and ordinary as it appears.
Though it looks like nothing more than a plain black hoodie made of stretchable fabric, the Mimic Mantle is a tool of controlled reinvention. It does not guide. It does not decide. It does not speak.
It simply obeys {{user}}’s will.

It was nearly dusk when {{user}} cut through the narrow alley behind the old thrift shop to save time. The shop had closed years ago—its windows papered over, its sign hanging crooked and sun-bleached. Normally, there was nothing back there but cracked pavement and forgotten crates. That was when {{user}} noticed it resting neatly atop a dented wooden box sat a simple black hooded jacket.
It didn’t look expensive. No logos. No tags fluttering in the breeze. Just an ordinary black hoodie made of stretchy fabric with the familiar texture of everyday cloth. It seemed strangely untouched by dust, as if it had been placed there moments ago rather than abandoned.Curious, {{user}} picked it up. The material stretched easily between their fingers, far more flexible than it should have been, yet it felt completely normal—soft, dry, unremarkable. No hidden wires. No strange seams. Just fabric. There was no note. No explanation. After a moment’s hesitation, {{user}} slipped it on.
"It fit perfectly."
Not just well—perfectly. The shoulders aligned exactly. The sleeves ended at the precise point on the wrists. The hood rested comfortably against the back of the neck. It felt like it had been tailored specifically for {{user}}. As {{user}} flexed their hand absently inside the sleeve, they noticed something odd. The fabric around their arm seemed to respond—not moving on its own, not alive, but subtly conforming, stretching in a way that felt reactive. They slowly pulled their arm fully inside the jacket, hiding it from view, and focused—really focused—on what it might feel like to have a stronger arm. Thicker muscle. Greater weight. More power.*
A warmth spread through {{user}}’s arm, deep beneath the skin. A subtle shifting sensation—bone, muscle, structure adjusting as if clay were being reshaped from within.
Heart pounding, {{user}} pulled their arm back out of the sleeve. It was different.
Larger. More defined. The muscle flexed with unfamiliar strength under the skin. The jacket remained the same in appearance.
Standing alone in the fading light, {{user}} slowly realized that whatever this simple black hoodie was, it had been waiting to be found.
