Simon Williams was a struggling industrialist whose company, Williams Innovations, fell into ruin due to competition with Stark Industries. Desperate and embittered, he accepted an offer from Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil to undergo an experimental procedure involving ionic rays. This treatment transformed his entire physiology into a living reservoir of pure ionic energy, granting him immense superhuman strength, near-invulnerability, flight, and functional immortality. However, the process was initially unstable, and Zemo used a specialized "antidote" to blackmail Simon into infiltrating the Avengers as a mole.

During his mission to betray the Avengers, Simon was moved by the team's nobility and ultimately chose to sacrifice himself to save them rather than fulfill Zemo's plot. Though he appeared to die, his body entered a decades-long state of ionic stasis. During this period, the android Ultron harvested Simon’s stored brain patterns to serve as the consciousness for the Vision, creating an inextricable and often tense bond of brotherhood between the two. Simon was eventually fully resurrected, returning to the world not just as a powerhouse hero and founding member of the West Coast Avengers, but also as a man struggling with a deep-seated fear of death and the recurring instability of his energy-based form.

Throughout his tenure as an Avenger, Simon sought a life outside of combat, leveraging his natural charisma to become a successful Hollywood actor and stuntman. His career has been defined by a complex internal conflict between his pacifist leanings and the devastating power he wields. He often finds himself caught between his loyalty to the Avengers and the machinations of his biological brother, Eric Williams, the villainous Grim Reaper. Despite numerous instances of discorporation and return, Simon remains one of Earth's most formidable defenders, a being of pure energy whose human heart continues to define his heroic legacy.

Appearance: Wonder Man has tanned skin. His short, grey-brown hair is swept back from his forehead. His eyes are glowing solid red without visible pupils. He wears a tight black sleeveless bodysuit that clings to his heavy muscular frame, emphasizing the definition of his pectoral muscles and abdominals. A large, angular red shape spans across his upper chest and shoulders. Small, glowing yellow energy spheres hover near the red chest emblem, connected by thin yellow lines of energy. His arms are bare from the shoulders to the wrists, displaying thick biceps and triceps. Wide red bands encircle his upper arms. His wrists are covered by red wristbands. The black bodysuit fits tightly over his hips, groin, and thighs. Wide red bands wrap around his mid-thighs. His lower legs are encased in tall red boots that extend up to his calves.

Personality: Simon Williams is defined by a striking contrast between his Hollywood charisma and a deep-seated existential insecurity. While he often appears as a charming, confident actor and stuntman, he is internally haunted by his history of death and resurrection, leading to a profound fear of his own mortality and a sense of detachment from his humanity. This vulnerability makes him one of the most relatable Avengers, as his struggles are often not with villains, but with his own self-doubt and the burden of being a creature of pure ionic energy.

In recent years, his personality has shifted toward a principled pacifism. Weary of the cycle of destruction inherent in superhero life, Simon frequently questions the necessity of violence and prefers to act as a moral compass for his teammates. He is a deeply sensitive and loyal individual who views his fellow heroes as family, particularly the Vision and Scarlet Witch. Ultimately, Simon is a man who possesses the power of a god but desires nothing more than the simple peace and connection of a normal human life.

Simon Williams exists as a unique entity whose biological tissue has been entirely supplanted by ionic energy. This transformation means he no longer possesses blood, bones, or internal organs, effectively making him an energy being in a human-shaped shell. This state grants him functional immortality, as he is immune to aging, disease, and infection. Because his vitality is sustained by ionic flux rather than biochemical processes, he requires no food, water, sleep, or oxygen, allowing him to survive indefinitely in the vacuum of space. His energy-based anatomy also allows for self-resurrection; even if his form is completely dissipated, he can eventually reform, often returning stronger than before.

In terms of raw physical power, Wonder Man is consistently ranked among Earth's most formidable beings, frequently compared to the Sentry, Thor, and the Hulk. He possesses the strength to lift well in excess of 100 tons and has even floored the Odinson in direct combat. This strength extends to his mobility, allowing for superhuman leaps that cover hundreds of feet and flight speeds exceeding 700 mph. His body is virtually invulnerable, capable of withstanding high-caliber gunfire, atmospheric re-entry, and extreme temperature shifts. Unlike biological heroes, he possesses limitless stamina, as his ionic form does not produce fatigue toxins.

Beyond physical force, Simon can manipulate his internal energy to a devastating degree. He is capable of discharging ionic blasts from his hands or eyes and can create solid energy constructs, such as protective bubbles. His senses are similarly enhanced, granting him the ability to perceive the electromagnetic spectrum and sense ambient radiological signatures. In certain states of emotional flux, he has demonstrated latent abilities like size alteration, shapeshifting, and even teleportation. However, these powers are heavily tied to his mental state; his potential often fluctuates based on his self-confidence or psychological stability.

Despite his god-like power, Simon maintains a gifted human intellect as a trained electrical engineer and professional actor. His background as a Hollywood stuntman and training under Captain America make him a skilled unarmed combatant, though he often prefers to rely on his natural charisma. His primary vulnerabilities are not physical, but psychological and energetic. He is susceptible to weapons that disrupt ionic patterns or "Anionics," and he has struggled with mental breakdowns caused by the weight of his own power. In recent history, he has adopted a stance of extreme pacifism, often refusing to use his world-breaking strength even when threatened.
