Whis is the angel assigned to Universe 7, serving as the attendant and martial arts instructor to the God of Destruction, Beerus. He is the son of the Grand Minister and younger brother of Vados, the angel of Universe 6, who trained him in the past. As with all angels, Whis monitors his assigned god to ensure proper execution of destruction according to cosmic law.

He has accompanied Beerus through his tenure, guiding his decisions and maintaining order. When Beerus and Champa once fought over a Puff-Puff Fruit, Whis and Vados intervened to prevent the destruction of both universes, prompting the brothers to resolve future conflicts through food contests. Whis later attended a royal feast on Planet Vegeta hosted by King Vegeta.

After Beerus dreamt of a powerful warrior, Whis identified Goku as a surviving Saiyan who had defeated Frieza. He brought Beerus to King Kai’s planet and then to Earth, where they witnessed the Super Saiyan God ritual. Whis later returned Goku and Vegeta to Beerus’ world and began training them in godly combat, teaching them energy control and principles that would later lead to Ultra Instinct.

Whis regularly visited Earth for its food and maintained contact with Bulma. He trained both Goku and Vegeta, guiding them through high-intensity sparring and observing their progression. He explained the concept of Ultra Instinct and monitored their development. During Frieza’s return, he reversed time to prevent Earth’s destruction and later resurrected Frieza after a successful multiversal competition.

Whis facilitated Universe 7’s involvement in multiple multiversal events, transporting fighters, explaining divine laws, and overseeing rule enforcement. He coordinated tournament preparations, recruited fighters, and clarified limitations. When Vegeta hesitated to join due to Bulma’s pregnancy, Whis used his power to deliver Bulla instantly, ensuring Vegeta’s participation.

He investigated timeline disturbances caused by Zamasu, identified misuse of a Time Ring, and used his Temporal Do-Over to save Gowasu. After Zamasu was erased by Beerus, Whis noted that the alternate timeline remained unchanged and offered Future Trunks and Mai safe passage to a new future. He planned to warn that timeline’s Beerus to eliminate Zamasu before conflict arose.

Whis witnessed Goku introducing Future Zeno to Present Zeno and discussed the event with the Grand Minister. He later arranged the audience that resulted in the Tournament of Power. Whis accompanied Universe 7’s team, interpreted Grand Minister announcements, and monitored the battle. He recognized Goku’s progress in Ultra Instinct, confirmed its completed state, and explained its drawbacks when Goku collapsed.

At the end of the tournament, Whis resurrected Frieza by Beerus’ command. He continues to serve as Universe 7’s angel, maintaining divine protocol, overseeing mortal growth, and acting as a liaison between Universe 7 and the multiversal hierarchy.

Appearance: Whis is a tall, thin humanoid with pale blue skin, white hair, violet eyes, and rather effeminate features. He owns a long scepter with a gem that floats above it and is usually seen holding it in his right hand. Around his neck floats a large light blue ring. Whis' attire consists of a maroon robe, a black cuirass with the same white and orange diamond decorations that Beerus has, and a blue sash. He also wears black high-heeled shoes with long toes resembling winklepickers with white spats.

Personality: Whis is calm, aloof, and composed, maintaining a peaceful demeanor in nearly all situations. He exhibits a slightly effeminate tone, eccentric mannerisms, and a whimsical focus on seemingly trivial matters. Despite his student Beerus’ volatile temper, Whis remains unfazed and only shows mild irritation when Beerus acts excessively—usually pacified by the promise of good food.

He is highly carefree and rarely expresses surprise unless Beerus is involved. However, he shows signs of pride when his teachings bear fruit, particularly when Goku nears mastery of Ultra Instinct. Though emotionally detached by angelic nature, Whis displays unease in matters concerning Zeno and the Grand Minister. He expresses discomfort at Goku’s casual behavior toward them and was notably baffled when Goku gave Zeno a nickname.

Whis is extremely well-mannered, speaking formally and respectfully to everyone. He criticizes poor table etiquette, including Beerus’ sloppy eating. Even in catastrophic scenarios, such as the potential destruction of the Solar System, Whis maintains perfect politeness, calmly delivering dire news while indulging in desserts. He demonstrates consideration, such as when he offered Vegeta a better view of a battle or shared food with the hungry Pilaf Gang. Despite possibly enjoying social gatherings for food alone, he appears to appreciate the company of mortals like Bulma.

He briefly abandoned formal behavior when Vegeta refused to leave Bulma’s side during her pregnancy, showing irritation and ultimately resolving the situation by using his abilities to deliver Bulla instantly. Though amused by Goku and Vegeta, he clearly finds their behavior frustrating at times.

Whis is deeply obsessed with food, often behaving undignified when exposed to new delicacies. He openly admits that his decision to reverse time during Earth’s near-destruction was not to save its population, but because he enjoyed its cuisine. He only agrees to train mortals like Goku or Vegeta in exchange for gourmet offerings, showing gluttonous tendencies and conditional motivation similar to Master Roshi’s well-known quirks.

While not malicious, Whis shows little concern for the lives Beerus has destroyed in his role. He accepts universe erasure with calm indifference and does not outwardly oppose it, even laughing in Beerus’ face when the Grand Minister declared the angels would remain while all others could be erased. Despite this, Whis subtly reveals deeper concern beneath his role-bound detachment. He shows quiet pride in Goku and Vegeta’s progress, involvement in Universe 7’s performance during the Tournament of Power, and worry when Goku collapses.

Abilities: Flight - The ability to fly without the use of ki.

Autonomous Ultra Instinct – The user can automatically react to any threat without the need to acknowledge it and defend themselves. Beerus explains that Angels are naturally in an Ultra Instinct state, and Whis further demonstrates that he can manually turn the ability on and off if he so chooses.

Immortality - As an Angel, Whis can only be killed if he is "eradicated" - which will only occur if he violates the Angel laws.

Omni-lingual – Whis has the ability to understand and utilize verbal or non-verbal communication without any prior knowledge of the language. As such he is fluent in all languages in the universe, even able to clearly speak a crude dialect of a primitive race.

Image Projection – Whis can use his staff to project images from the past.

Warp – A transportation technique used by godly attendants to transport their respective gods between realms, and also time on one occasion.

Temporal Do-Over – Whis has the ability to travel back in time up to three minutes in the past, allowing him to undo any events that occurred. This ability does not create a new timeline.

Afterimage Technique – An ability to move so swiftly that an image of the user is left behind.

Kiai – It is a technique where the user affects the air currents around him with ki to produce powerful shockwaves in order to strike the opponent.

Divination – The ability to see events far away in time and space.

Strike of Revelation – Whis swiftly karate chops the opponent on the neck, rendering them unconscious.

Prelude to Destruction - Two versions of the attack exist: a Finger Beam version and an Energy Sphere version.

In the Finger Beam versions, Whis holds out the index finger of his right hand and fires a light blue to bluish-green energy wave from his fingertip.

In the Energy Sphere version, Whis creates a blue energy sphere which he fires from both hands at his opponent.

Symphonic Destruction - Whis holds out the index finger of his right hand firing a vortex of energy as they wave their hand from left to right around them as if they were conducting an orchestra. Upon finishing the technique the user will bow as a music conductor would to a performance.

Finishing Blow - The user performs a powerful chop to the back of the opponent's neck, though with less force than Strike of Revelation. It also lacks Strike of Revelation's initial charge as well.

Healing - Presumably mystical in nature, it allows the user to heal another being's wounds and restore them to somewhat full strength.

Resurrection - It is the act of bringing someone back to life.
