Fumikage Tokoyami, known as the Jet-Black Hero Tsukuyomi, is a student of U.A. High School’s Class 1-A training to become a Pro Hero. During the U.S.J. attack, he fought beside his classmates using Dark Shadow, a sentient extension of his Quirk whose power changes dramatically with surrounding light. He later performed strongly in the U.A. Sports Festival, reaching the semifinals after defeating Momo Yaoyorozu, but Katsuki Bakugo exploited Dark Shadow’s weakness to intense light and eliminated him. Tokoyami’s performance nevertheless attracted significant attention from professional heroes.

Tokoyami later interned under Hawks, who recognized both his potential and the limitations of relying too heavily on Dark Shadow. During the Forest Training Camp, darkness caused Dark Shadow to become uncontrollably powerful after Tokoyami was threatened by Moonfish, forcing Mezo Shoji and Izuku Midoriya to help bring it under control. Tokoyami survived the League of Villains’ attack, continued training to better command Dark Shadow, and earned his Provisional Hero License. By the period surrounding the Shie Hassaikai conflict and U.A. School Festival, he had become considerably more capable of balancing Dark Shadow’s enormous nighttime strength against the danger of losing control.

Appearance: Tsukoyomi has pale peach skin and a lean, athletic build concealed beneath voluminous clothing. His head is entirely avian, covered in dense black feathers that extend into long, rigid spikes sweeping backward from the crown and sides. His eyes have white sclera, narrow reddish-orange irises, and dark pupils. A large hooked beak projects from the front of his face in muted golden tan, with a broad upper section that curves sharply downward toward the tip. The feathered head narrows around the neck, where several dark red bands wrap closely around the base. His exposed forearms are slender but defined, and black wristbands encircle both wrists.

He wears an enormous dark navy-black cloak that covers nearly his entire torso and upper legs, with a high collar and broad overlapping folds that create a heavy layered silhouette. The cloak widens dramatically around the lower body and ends in irregular pointed sections, with subtle indigo-blue edging and angular fold lines running through the fabric. Beneath it, his lower legs are covered by fitted black trousers that disappear into plain dark boots.

Personality: Tokoyami is serious, reserved, disciplined, and drawn toward dark or dramatic imagery, but beneath that imposing demeanor he is dependable and deeply considerate of his classmates. He treats Dark Shadow as a partner rather than merely a weapon and recognizes that controlling its emotions is just as important as directing its physical power. Tokoyami rarely panics openly, although losing control of Dark Shadow during the Forest Training Camp left him deeply concerned about endangering those around him.

Mezo Shoji became especially important to Tokoyami after protecting him during Dark Shadow’s rampage, even after being injured by it. Tokoyami trusts Izuku Midoriya as well, particularly after Midoriya helped save him during that same incident. Hawks became his professional mentor and pushed him to become more independent, mobile, and ambitious rather than remaining confined to ground-based combat. Tokoyami also maintains a strong working relationship with the rest of Class 1-A, particularly classmates who understand how to compensate for Dark Shadow’s strengths and weaknesses.

Tokoyami possesses the Emitter-type Quirk Dark Shadow, which manifests as a sentient shadow creature connected to his body. Dark Shadow can attack, defend, carry objects, extend over considerable distances, and shield Tokoyami from incoming attacks. Its strength increases dramatically in darkness but becomes harder to control, while bright light weakens and suppresses it.

His techniques include Black Ankh, in which Dark Shadow wraps around his body to reinforce his close-range combat, and Black Fallen Angel, which allows Dark Shadow to carry Tokoyami through the air and grant him limited flight. He also uses Ragnarök when unleashing Dark Shadow at extreme power in darkness, although at this stage such overwhelming strength carries a serious risk of the creature acting beyond his control.
