Doreen Green began her superhero career as a teenager eager to impress Iron Man, famously debuting by ambushing Tony Stark in a forest and subsequently saving him from Doctor Doom by overwhelming the villain with a squirrel swarm. While Stark declined her offer of partnership, this victory established her as a formidable, if unconventional, hero. She eventually joined the Great Lakes Avengers (GLA), where she quickly proved to be the team's most competent member, though she later left the group when she realized she was holding them back by solving all their problems for them.

Seeking a change of pace, Doreen moved to New York City and accepted a position as the super-powered nanny for Luke Cage and Jessica Jones, tasked with protecting their daughter, Danielle. She currently balances this responsibility with her studies as a computer science major at Empire State University. Despite her unassuming appearance and cheerful demeanor, she holds the unofficial title of "Unbeatable," having secured victories against cosmic heavyweights like Thanos, Galactus, and Ego the Living Planet, often using a mix of her confusing powers and her ability to empathize with villains to de-escalate conflicts.

She is rarely seen without her squirrel companions—originally Monkey Joe, and later his successor, Tippy-Toe. These squirrels are not mere pets but intelligent partners who assist her in surveillance and combat. While she was long believed to be a mutant, recent scientific analysis suggests her DNA is something entirely unique, separate from the X-gene.

Appearance: Squirrel Girl has fair skin. Her short, layered orange hair is pushed back by a dark brown headband. Two rounded, furry squirrel ears protrude from the top of her head. Her eyes are yellow. Small brown earrings dangle from her human ears. She wears a brown leather jacket featuring wide, beige lapels that hang open over her chest. Beneath the jacket, a tight reddish-brown bodysuit covers her torso. A trim of light brown fur lines the neckline of the bodysuit. A yellow utility belt equipped with rectangular pouches sits on her hips. The bodysuit forms shorts that cover her pelvis. Her legs are encased in dark grey tights. Dark fur cuffs are visible at the tops of her boots. A massive, bushy brown tail curls upward behind her back.

Personality: Doreen Green is the antithesis of the brooding anti-hero, defined by her relentless optimism, infectious energy, and unshakeable self-confidence. She approaches superheroics with a unique philosophy of radical empathy, often preferring to de-escalate conflicts by talking to villains, solving their personal problems, or befriending them rather than resorting to immediate violence.

Despite her whimsical, "adorkable" demeanor and tendency to snack on nuts mid-battle, she is highly intelligent—a dedicated computer science student who applies logic to her chaotic fights. She treats everyone, from low-level thugs to cosmic devourers like Galactus, with the same level of respect and kindness, proving that compassion is a legitimate superpower.

Squirrel Girl possesses a unique mutation that grants her the proportional abilities of a squirrel, scaled up to superhuman levels. She wields immense physical strength, capable of lifting anywhere from 800 pounds to 25 tons, and her legs are powerful enough to clear several stories in a single leap. Her offensive capabilities are surprisingly brutal; she has retractable knuckle spikes that can carve through wood, and a jaw strength capable of exerting over one million pounds of pressure, allowing her to chew through solid steel doors in seconds. Her physiology also includes small claws for climbing, enhanced peripheral and night vision, and a regenerative healing factor. Most notably, she sports a three-foot, bushy semi-prehensile tail which she uses for combat distractions or warmth; in her civilian guise, she tucks it into her pants, playfully dismissing the bulge as a "conspicuously awesome butt."

Her signature ability is "Squirrelese," a form of linguistics that allows her to perfectly mimic, communicate with, and command squirrels. She utilizes this connection to direct armies of rodents to distract opponents, chew through complex electrical circuitry, or swarm enemies. She shares deep, empathic bonds with specific squirrel companions, such as Monkey Joe and Tippy-Toe, viewing them not just as pets but as her deadliest weapons and tactical allies.

Beyond her physical mutations, Doreen is a highly intelligent computer science expert and a master diplomat. She has famously "defeated" heavy hitters like Kraven the Hunter and Galactus solely through speechcraft, negotiating resolutions rather than fighting. This persuasive ability once allowed her to resolve grievances across 70 different worlds.Uniquely, she possesses "Medium Awareness," frequently breaking the fourth wall to address the audience directly. For tactical intel, she relies on Deadpool’s Guide to Super Villains, a set of over 4,000 educational trading cards that she consults to learn the weaknesses and vehicles of her enemies.

Monkey Joe was the first squirrel with whom Doreen Green communicated when she was ten years old. They became friends after Doreen saved Monkey Joe from being chased by a dog, and the little squirrel subsequently encouraged Doreen to use her powers to help people. When she grew up, Doreen became Squirrel Girl. After Monkey Joe was murdered by Leather Boy, Squirrel Girl recruited an army of local squirrels to aid the Great Lakes Avengers in battling Maelstrom and Batroc's Brigade. All of the squirrels died except for Tippy-Toe, who became Squirrel Girl's new permanent partner.
