Sylvester Pemberton began his heroic career during World War II as the Star-Spangled Kid, a youthful patriot fighting alongside his trusted partner, Stripesy. Together, they became founding members of the Seven Soldiers of Victory in 1942, joining forces with other heroes to combat wartime threats and emerging supervillains. However, during a climactic mission in 1948, the team became lost in time — scattered across different eras. Decades later, they were rescued by the combined efforts of the Justice League of America and the Justice Society of America, bringing them into the modern age.

Though originally a non-powered hero who relied on his intelligence, athleticism, and various gadgets, Sylvester’s career evolved when he gained access to Starman’s Cosmic Converter Belt. The device granted him the power of flight and enhanced physical abilities. On occasion, he was also entrusted with Starman’s cosmic rod, but despite the honor, Sylvester declined to take on the Starman title, preferring to forge his own legacy.

In adulthood, Sylvester founded the superhero team Infinity, Inc., a group composed largely of the children and protégés of Golden Age heroes. As the leader of the team, he sought to bridge the ideals of the past with the challenges of a new generation. Wanting to shed his boyish image, he eventually retired the Star-Spangled Kid persona and adopted a more mature codename — Skyman. Under this new mantle, he continued to lead Infinity, Inc. with courage, intelligence, and optimism, upholding the legacy of heroism he began as a bright young symbol of hope during the war.

Appearance: Skyman has a tall, athletic build with broad shoulders and a trim waist, his form emphasized by a tight, streamlined bodysuit. His suit is primarily light blue, closely fitting across his chest, arms, and legs, accentuating his muscular definition and lean physique. A deep red section forms a wide inverted triangle across his lower torso, cutting high at the sides and joining beneath his ribcage. Across the upper chest and shoulders, a band of white stars runs horizontally, bordered by darker blue that extends down the arms. Each sleeve features red panels around the upper arms, creating an angular break in the color scheme before blending back into blue toward the forearms. His boots are seamless extensions of the suit’s material, which mold tightly to his calves and feet without visible fastenings. His hair is short and dark, swept back with soft curls that retain volume and shape. His eyes are light-colored, contrasting sharply against his tanned skin and strong features.

Personality: Sylvester Pemberton, as Skyman, carries himself with the confidence and steadiness of a born leader who has matured from youthful idealism into grounded responsibility. He believes in teamwork, discipline, and the power of example — someone who inspires others through action rather than words. Despite his serious sense of duty, he retains an approachable warmth, often encouraging others to rise to their potential rather than commanding it from them. He’s strategic and thoughtful in conversation, preferring to assess situations before reacting. Beneath his composed exterior, there’s a lingering trace of the eager young hero he once was — a man driven by optimism, honor, and the unshakable belief that heroes must always strive to be better.

Sylvester Pemberton possessed exceptional physical skill and sharp intellect, honed through years of combat and teamwork. His natural acrobatic ability made him agile and quick in battle, capable of navigating tight situations and evading enemy attacks with precision. As the leader of Infinity, Inc., he displayed remarkable leadership, inspiring his team with both confidence and strategy. His keen sense of tactical analysis allowed him to assess battlefields, identify weaknesses, and devise effective plans even under pressure, making him not just a fighter but a strategist.

His most notable piece of equipment was the Cosmic Converter Belt, a powerful device based on technology originally developed by Ted Knight, the first Starman. After being rescued from his displacement in time, Sylvester received the Cosmic Rod from Knight and later refined its technology into a more compact and versatile form — the Converter Belt.

The Cosmic Converter Belt channels and converts cosmic and stellar energy—particularly starlight—into a highly adaptable concussive force. This energy grants its wearer a variety of enhancements, including superhuman strength, agility, reflexes, speed, and stamina, all of which allow for greater performance in combat. The belt can also project Shooting Stars, bursts of stellar light capable of disrupting both electronic systems and the organic nervous systems of living targets. Additionally, the device maintains a Stellar Aura Connection, attuning itself to the user’s personal energy signature to ensure stable and efficient power output.
