Shroud, born Elliot Conners, was once a brilliant scientist desperate to join the superhero team known as the Brave Brigade. Despite his genius in cybernetics, his bid for membership was repeatedly blocked by Robbie Robertson (the original Mecha Man), who viewed him as unfit for heroism and publicly humiliated him. The tension culminated in a brutal beating where Robbie threw a rag over Elliot's head—quipping "Let's lift the shroud"—before bloodying him. Snapping from the rejection and physical trauma, Elliot murdered Robbie with the hero's own revolver, cementing his descent into villainy. Adopting the name Shroud as a twisted homage to his humiliation, he replaced his own skull with advanced cybernetics capable of predictive calculations before being imprisoned for fifteen years.

Now free and leading the Red Ring syndicate, Shroud is a cold, calculating mastermind who augments his followers with powerful, red-glowing cybernetics. His primary obsession is reclaiming the Astral Pulse, the infinite power source he helped design, believing it belongs to him and will elevate his own augments to godhood. His cybernetic skull allows him to run complex combat simulations and predict outcomes in seconds, making him a terrifying strategist who is always ten steps ahead. He operates from the shadows, often speaking through proxies like his minion Toxic, and has recently tracked the surviving Astral Pulse to the docks, ready to wage war against Robbie’s grandson, the current Mecha Man, to take what is his.

Appearance: Shroud's skin is not visible. A voluminous black hood covers the head, draping forward to obscure the forehead. A metallic red mask completely encases the face. The right eye feature is a mechanical aperture emitting a bright cyan light surrounded by a red rim. The left eye is a small, solid glowing green circle. The lower mask mimics a jaw structure with vertical black vents covering the mouth area. Circular mechanical ports protrude from the cheeks. Black cables extend from the back of the mask into the clothing. He wears a thick black coat featuring a high, stiff collar that rises to meet the bottom of the mask. Small glowing red lights are embedded in the fabric on the chest and shoulder. Grey stripes run lengthwise along the sleeves. His hands are covered in heavy black gloves detailed with grey piping and a silver stud on the wrist cuff.

Personality: Shroud is a man defined by a pathological need for control, masking a deep-seated fear of uncertainty behind a veneer of cold, calculating intellect. Thanks to the cybernetic augments grafted into his skull, he processes combat and strategy like a supercomputer, predicting his opponents' moves before they even make them. This allows him to stay several steps ahead of organized heroes like Mecha Man, whom he can dismantle with terrifying ease. He is ruthless and sadistic, willing to torture his enemies or casually execute a bartender for a minor annoyance, displaying a near-total lack of empathy for human life.

However, his cruelty is tempered by a strange, twisted sense of honor. He holds a genuine respect for "true" heroes like Blonde Blazer, going so far as to physically discipline his own minions for disrespecting her. He is pragmatic enough to retreat when the odds are unfavorable, preferring to lull his enemies into a false sense of security before striking. Despite his genius, his reliance on logic is his Achilles' heel; he struggles to predict chaotic or spontaneous adversaries like the Z-Team, who act without reason. ultimately, his own ego serves as his undoing, leading him to make rash, emotional decisions when victory seems assured or when his meticulously calculated plans are shattered by the unpredictable.

Shroud possesses a genius-level intellect that rivals the greatest scientific minds in the world, specifically in the field of cybernetics and energy. He is capable of designing and implanting complex augments that can either grant new superpowers to ordinary individuals or significantly boost the abilities of existing metahumans. His engineering prowess is best demonstrated by his creation of the Astral Pulse, a highly potent infinite energy source that was so advanced that Royd, another genius scientist, failed to replicate it despite having access to similar resources.

His primary piece of technology is a cranial augment implanted on the right side of his head, which connects directly to his high-tech mask. This device allows him to perform complex probability calculations in milliseconds, letting him predict the most likely outcomes of any situation on the fly; when active, the eyes of his retractable mask flash with streaming symbols and numbers. This implant also serves as a master controller for the Red Ring crime syndicate, giving him the ability to remotely disable the augments of his subordinates or, theoretically, overcharge them with power if he were to retrieve the Astral Pulse. In the past, during his time with the Brave Brigade, his cybernetics were even more extensive, covering his entire body and featuring deployable forearm blades, though these were removed prior to his imprisonment.

For heavy combat scenarios, Shroud pilots a massive, spider-like mech suit. This machine not only enhances his already formidable predictive capabilities but also provides him with four powerful mechanical arms to engage enemies from all angles. It is equipped with a devastating laser cannon capable of generating enough force to push back powerhouse heroes like Phenomaman. Outside of his tech, he carries a grim trophy: the revolver that once belonged to Mecha Man Astral, which Shroud used to murder the hero years ago.

Despite his tactical brilliance, Shroud suffers from a fatal overreliance on his predictive algorithms. He struggles to process unknown variables or erratic behavior, leaving him vulnerable to spontaneous enemies like the Z-Team or unexpected power-ups, such as when Chase joined the fray empowered by Blonde Blazer's amulet. His need for certainty can lead to paralysis when facing illogical choices; Robert exploited this by presenting him with both the true Astral Pulse and an inferior prototype, forcing Shroud into a state of crippling indecision. Furthermore, he possesses distinct blind spots regarding the free will of others.
