Eijiro Kirishima, the hero student known as Red Riot, was born with the Quirk Hardening and initially considered it unimpressive compared with flashier abilities. During middle school, he witnessed Gigantomachia threatening several students and froze in fear while Mina Ashido stepped forward to protect them. Ashamed that he had failed to act, Kirishima nearly abandoned his dream of becoming a hero until footage of his idol, the old chivalrous hero Crimson Riot, reminded him that courage meant acting despite fear. He trained relentlessly, toughening both his body and his Quirk, changed his appearance, and successfully entered U.A. High School’s Class 1-A.

At U.A., Kirishima survived the villain attack at the Unforeseen Simulation Joint and later competed in the Sports Festival, where his hardened body carried him through several rounds until his prolonged slugging match with Tetsutetsu ended in a draw; an arm-wrestling rematch decided the victory in Kirishima’s favor before Katsuki Bakugo defeated him. He continued strengthening Hardening during his internship and forest training, then joined several classmates in the unauthorized effort to recover Bakugo after the League of Villains abducted him. Kirishima became the one who successfully reached out to Bakugo during the rescue, allowing him to escape without the students directly entering the heroes’ battle.

After earning his Provisional Hero License, Kirishima began a work-study under Fat Gum and developed Red Riot Unbreakable, pushing Hardening far beyond his previous limit for short bursts. During the raid on the Shie Hassaikai, he and Fat Gum became trapped against Rappa and Tengai. Rappa’s repeated punches shattered Kirishima’s hardened body and nearly broke his resolve, but he forced himself back into the fight, endured another barrage, and protected Fat Gum long enough for the pro hero to unleash a decisive counterattack.

Appearance: Red Riot has fair peach skin and a tall, extremely muscular build with a broad chest, thick shoulders, heavily defined arms, a narrow waist, and powerful legs. His eyes are red with dark pupils beneath sharply angled brows. His hair is vivid crimson, extremely spiky, and arranged into long rigid points radiating upward and outward from the crown, with shorter jagged sections framing the sides of his head. A black angular mask covers the area around his eyes and runs down across the bridge of his nose, continuing into a pointed black jaw guard that frames the lower face. He has sharp triangular teeth visible between his lips. His upper body is largely bare, showing prominent pectorals, deeply defined abdominal muscles, and a dark red diagonal strap crossing the chest with a jagged lightning-like break through its center. Thick dark crimson segmented pads sit over both shoulders in stacked rectangular sections.

A wide dark red belt wraps around his waist, dominated by an oversized red buckle shaped around a bold capital “R.” From the belt hangs a long torn crimson waistcloth split into irregular pointed panels, with ragged black-edged sections along the lower hem. His trousers are loose black pants gathered heavily around the thighs and knees, creating thick folds through the legs. His lower legs are wrapped in multiple broad dark red bands that continue into heavy crimson boots with layered straps, reinforced rounded toes, and thick dark soles.

Personality: Kirishima is enthusiastic, straightforward, loyal, and intensely concerned with courage. He frequently describes admirable behavior as “manly,” using the word less as a statement about gender than as shorthand for bravery, integrity, and refusing to abandon another person. His cheerful confidence developed after years of insecurity rather than coming naturally, and memories of freezing against Gigantomachia still affect him deeply. Kirishima does not view fear itself as shameful anymore; what matters to him is whether he can move despite it. This makes him especially willing to take punishment for others and exceptionally stubborn once he decides that retreat would leave somebody exposed.

Crimson Riot is Kirishima’s greatest heroic inspiration, shaping his belief that a hero must stand firm when fear makes running easier. Mina Ashido knew him before U.A., and her courage during the Gigantomachia encounter became a painful but important example that pushed Kirishima to change himself. Katsuki Bakugo develops into one of his closest friends at U.A., with Kirishima’s directness allowing him to work comfortably with Bakugo despite his abrasive personality. Denki Kaminari and Hanta Sero are frequent companions within Class 1-A, while Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu becomes a friendly rival because of their remarkably similar Quirks and personalities. Fat Gum later becomes Kirishima’s most important professional mentor, trusting him in real criminal operations and helping him understand that being a shield for others requires more than raw durability.

Kirishima’s Quirk, Hardening, allows him to harden his skin and underlying body tissue until they become extremely resistant to impacts, cutting attacks, and other physical damage. The same hardening strengthens his punches and tackles, letting him fight as a close-range bruiser while using his own body as protection for other people. Sustained punishment gradually wears the hardened layers down, so stronger attacks can eventually crack through his defenses.

His strongest early technique is Red Riot Unbreakable, in which he hardens his entire body to its maximum density for roughly thirty to forty seconds. In this state, his surface becomes dramatically tougher and more jagged, allowing him to withstand attacks far beyond his normal limit, though maintaining it rapidly exhausts his Hardening and cannot be sustained indefinitely. His combat style therefore revolves around closing distance, enduring the opponent’s strongest attacks, and creating an opening through sheer persistence.
