Metamorpho

Rex Mason, known as Metamorpho the Element Man, is a metahuman superhero with the power to transmute his body into any known element or compound. Formerly a soldier-for-hire and archaeologist, Mason operates as a powerful ally to both the Outsiders and the Terrifics. He is the son of the renowned archaeologist Montana Mason, whose disapproval of Rex’s pursuit of fame and wealth defined much of their strained relationship. Despite this, Rex followed his own path, leading to a career in high-risk archaeological work and eventually employment with Simon Stagg, the manipulative head of Stagg Industries. During this time, he became romantically involved with Stagg’s daughter, Sapphire Stagg.

Rex was secretly recruited by the U.S. Government’s Department of Metahuman Affairs for a metahuman weapons program. A latent metagene made him a viable candidate for transformation, and he was exposed to an ancient meteorite’s energy, triggering his metamorphosis into Metamorpho. The government constructed a staged training narrative in which Rex operated alongside fellow operatives Urania Blackwell (Element Girl) and a manufactured enemy group including Bobby Fradon (Doc Dread), Samuel Reese (Stingaree), and the Prosecutor. Publicly, the origin of Metamorpho was attributed to a laboratory accident orchestrated by Simon Stagg, masking the government’s involvement.

Metamorpho’s physiology grants him a host of formidable powers. His elemental transmutation ability allows him to convert his body into any gaseous, liquid, or solid form, initially limited to elements found in the human body, though that restriction has since dissipated. He can combine elements into complex compounds, reshape his limbs into tools or weapons, and assume intangible forms. His control over chemical properties enables him to synthesize toxins, gases, and other substances on command. He can also stretch and manipulate his body’s shape with elastic flexibility, and his metamorphosis extends to function-specific alterations such as telescopic vision by reshaping his eyes into binoculars.

In combat, Rex exhibits superhuman strength and durability, capable of withstanding high-impact attacks and energy blasts without lasting harm. His body serves as natural armor, allowing him to engage powerful adversaries without injury. He can split into multiple autonomous copies through bio-fission, each retaining his powers, and he can increase his size and strength proportionally. His augmented senses allow him to see in complete darkness and across long distances.

Rex is a skilled archaeologist and chemist, with practical knowledge in martial arts, investigation, aviation, and toxicology. His chemical expertise is advanced enough to correct and synthesize complex compounds on the fly, as demonstrated when he modified a failed cure for Joker Venom within seconds.

Despite his versatility, Metamorpho has a singular weakness: the Orb of Ra. This artifact, carved from the same meteor that transformed him, emits energy that neutralizes his powers and destabilizes his body’s cohesion, rendering him vulnerable.

Appearance: Metamorpho is a tall, muscular male figure with a distorted, multi-colored body that reflects his elemental nature. His head is bald, smooth, and pale gray with dark, sunken eyes and no visible pupils, giving him a skull-like appearance. His left arm and shoulder are jagged and crystalline, dark purple in color with black shading, resembling amethyst or mineral deposits. His right arm and upper right torso are a rough, earthy orange, resembling oxidized metal or clay. His right leg is dark gray-blue with a rocky texture, while his left leg transitions into a pale, silvery-white vaporous form with yellow energy trailing from it, resembling molten or gaseous matter. He wears only black shorts with a silver belt bearing an "M"-shaped buckle. His body is asymmetrical and divided by elemental compositions, visually emphasizing his ability to transform into different substances.
