Sarah was a young Morlock living beneath New York when Mister Sinister’s Marauders carried out the Mutant Massacre. Gambit rescued her during the slaughter. She later returned to the Morlock tunnels and grew up under Callisto’s protection. Mikhail Rasputin eventually flooded the tunnels and transported selected survivors to a hostile dimension known as the Hill. Time passed rapidly there and Sarah reached adulthood while fighting for survival. Her mutation produced uncontrolled bone growths across her body. She took the name Marrow and rose through the Hill’s brutal society before returning to Earth with Gene Nation.

Marrow became a leader of Gene Nation and pursued revenge for every Morlock killed during the massacre. The group murdered humans at a nightclub and later threatened civilians throughout the New York subway system. Marrow attached an explosive trigger to one of her hearts and challenged Storm to stop her. Storm removed the heart before the bomb could detonate. Marrow survived because her mutation had created a second functioning heart. She later joined the X-Men during the crisis involving Bastion and Operation Zero Tolerance. Wolverine took responsibility for helping her control her violence while she secretly cared for the injured Callisto beneath the city.

A Skrull medical chamber later stabilized Marrow’s body and gave her greater control over her bone growth. She confronted Mikhail over the suffering she endured on the Hill but spared his life. Marrow eventually left the X-Men to pursue an education. S.H.I.E.L.D. later brainwashed her and placed her under the civilian identity Sarah Rushman for covert missions. She then entered the Weapon X program and received further physical enhancement. Marrow later infiltrated Cable’s Mutant Underground before rebuilding Gene Nation from its cells. Agent Zero destroyed that organization but deliberately left her alive. M-Day removed her mutant powers. Volga later restored them through an experimental procedure that cost Sarah her unborn child and damaged her mental stability. Cable recruited her into X-Force after discovering what had happened. She later joined the Secret X-Men during the rescue of Empress Xandra and fought beside other displaced mutants in Vanaheim after the Hellfire Gala.

Appearance: Marrow has fair peach skin and a lean athletic build with defined arms a narrow waist small firm breasts and toned legs. Her blue eyes stand out beneath dark lashes. Her hair is a vivid pink and sweeps back in thick windswept layers with long loose strands around her head and neck. Pale bone growths frame the sides of her face and wrap around her brow like a jagged crown. More bone spikes jut from her shoulders ribs hips back and lower legs.

She wears a strapless cropped top in muted green with black side panels that leaves her shoulders midriff and much of her back bare. Matching green leggings with black outer panels cling tightly to her hips thighs calves and feet. Bone rings circle both lower legs. She has olive fingerless gloves and pink nail polish on her visible fingernails.

Personality: Marrow is confrontational and suspicious of authority. Her childhood among persecuted Morlocks taught her to expect betrayal from humans and surface mutants alike. She initially treats compassion as weakness and responds to fear through anger or violence. Her hostility also hides shame over her appearance and uncertainty about whether anyone could accept her. Life with the X-Men gradually teaches her restraint. She remains blunt and aggressive but becomes capable of protecting people beyond the Morlock community. Her decision to spare Mikhail shows that she can reject vengeance even when she believes it is justified.

Callisto raised Sarah and remained her closest parental figure. Marrow protected her while living with the X-Men and continued to identify strongly with the Morlocks. Storm was first an enemy because Marrow blamed her for abandoning the underground community after becoming its leader. Their conflict became a turning point after Storm stopped the subway bombing and later allowed Marrow a place among the X-Men. Wolverine became a harsh mentor who understood her violent instincts and refused to excuse them. Their confrontations helped Marrow direct her aggression toward combat rather than innocent targets.

Marrow regarded Archangel as a savior because she had witnessed him fighting the Marauders during the Mutant Massacre. This fixation later developed into a close bond during her time with the X-Men. She also formed a working friendship with Colossus and confronted his brother Mikhail beside him. Cable recruited her into X-Force and gave her a place among operatives who understood trauma and unstable powers. Their alliance became strained when Sarah learned that he had concealed the truth about Volga’s experiments and the loss of her child.

Marrow can rapidly grow bone throughout her body and force it through her skin. She can remove these growths without permanently damaging herself and shape them into knives or swords or clubs or staffs. She can fire smaller spikes as projectiles and create larger formations for armor or shields. Her body continuously replaces the removed material. Later treatments gave her enough control to retract most protrusions and maintain a more ordinary appearance when desired. Her power remains painful and can become unstable under emotional strain or biological interference.

Her altered skeleton grants enhanced strength and resistance to physical injury. Dense bone formations can protect her organs and absorb heavy impacts. Marrow possesses accelerated healing that closes wounds and replaces damaged tissue. Her mutation has produced redundant biological structures such as a second heart. This allowed her to survive injuries that would immediately kill an ordinary person. Enhancements from Weapon X and Volga later increased her control and expanded the forms she could create.

Marrow learned survival and close combat from Callisto and the Morlocks before receiving further training from the X-Men. She fights through rapid movement and improvised bone weapons while accepting injuries that her healing can repair. Her service with S.H.I.E.L.D. and Weapon X provided experience in surveillance and infiltration and covert operations. She later worked with Cable’s X-Force during missions against enhanced soldiers and international threats.
