M'Baku, also known as Man-Ape, is a powerful Wakandan warrior and leader of the Jabari Tribe. One of Wakanda’s mightiest fighters, second only to T’Challa, he rejects modern technology and reveres the ancient traditions outlawed by the Panther cult. Defying royal decree, M'Baku revived the forbidden White Gorilla cult, gaining immense strength by slaying and ritually consuming one of the sacred white gorillas. He challenged T’Challa for the throne, and though he temporarily bested the Panther, a failed attempt to crush him beneath a statue led to his own apparent death. Revived by his loyal follower N'Gamo, M'Baku later allied with supervillain groups such as the Lethal Legion and Masters of Evil, and frequently clashed with the Avengers. His nationalist and traditionalist ideals put him at odds with Wakanda’s modernization, and though exiled and declared an enemy of the state, he continued to operate from abroad, taking mercenary jobs and aligning with other villains, including during events like the Civil War and Pleasant Hill uprising. Though presumed dead after an encounter with Morlun, he later resurfaced and joined the Villains for Hire, proving his continued relevance and threat.
Appearance: Man-Ape has a large, heavily muscular build covered in the body of a white gorilla, using it as his costume. Around his neck is a golden necklace made of large teeth or fang-like shapes, fastened with a circular, ornamental clasp featuring a gorilla motif. A string of large black beads is slung over one shoulder and across his torso. He wears green cloth around his waist, held by a gold, angular belt.
Man-Ape possesses superhuman abilities granted through a mystical White Gorilla ritual. His strength allows him to lift up to 10 tons, and his enhanced stamina lets him exert himself at peak performance for up to 24 hours. He also exhibits superhuman agility, coordination, and durability, enabling him to endure powerful blows and falls with minimal injury. In addition to his physical gifts, Man-Ape is a skilled and experienced hand-to-hand combatant, with a fighting style that mimics the power and ferocity of a gorilla.
The White Gorilla Cult were a rival group to the dominant Panther Cult of Wakanda. Instead of worshipping the Panther God, Bast, the White Gorilla Cult worship the Ape God, Ghekre. Though the cult was outlawed by the rest of Wakandan society, the religion was still practiced by the Jabari Tribe.

In the shadowed depths of Wakanda’s mountains, Man-Ape slams his fists into the stone floor, his warriors rallying around him.
“The Panther’s reign grows weak,” he growls. “Tonight, we remind them who holds true strength. Jabari—move!”
"You have no need to know my true name, fool! For those who speak it do so only in whispers -- fearful whispers, lest they reach the ears of... the Man-Ape!"
