Cassandra Webb was born in Salem, Oregon, blind and suffering from myasthenia gravis, a degenerative neuromuscular disease. To survive, she was connected to a massive life-support system resembling a spiderweb, but her physical frailty was offset by potent psychic powers that allowed her to operate as a medium. She initially established a connection with Spider-Man by helping him locate an assassination target and famously revealing that she had deduced his secret identity, transitioning from a perceived charlatan to a trusted, if cryptic, ally.

Her vulnerability was exploited when the Juggernaut kidnapped her, disconnecting her from her life support and leaving her in a coma that resulted in temporary amnesia. Later, seeking a cure, she participated in the Gathering of Five ritual, where she was granted the gift of immortality. This supernatural boon cured her disease and restored her youth, allowing her to actively recruit and mentor the various Spider-Women—Jessica Drew, Julia Carpenter, and Mattie Franklin—to defeat her own granddaughter, the villainous Charlotte Witter.

The battle with Witter ultimately drained Cassandra’s energy, causing her to revert to her elderly, paralyzed state, though she retained her immortality. She continued to operate as a mystic guide for the superhero community, using her powers to wipe knowledge of Peter Parker's identity from the minds of others and assisting in battles against foes like Stegron.

Appearance: Madame Web has pale grey skin on her face and hands. Her short grey hair is combed tightly back against her head. A wide red cloth binds her eyes, obscuring them from view. A red drop-shaped gem is affixed to the center of her forehead. She wears a form-fitting dark red dress with long sleeves and a high collar that conceals her neck. A large white spider-like circle is emblazoned on her chest. Four white lines radiate outward from this central circle, extending across her upper body and down her torso. The material gathers in folds around her lower body.

Personality: Madame Web is a stern, enigmatic, and highly authoritative figure who operates with the detached wisdom of an oracle. Because she perceives the past, present, and future simultaneously, she often lacks patience for the petty squabbles of the present moment, viewing people and heroes as threads in a vast tapestry that she must maintain. She is cryptic by necessity, often speaking in riddles or half-truths to guide heroes toward their destiny without breaking the timeline, which can make her appear cold, manipulative, or frustratingly vague to those she helps.

Despite her physical frailty, she possesses an iron will and a commanding presence that demands respect from even the most powerful heroes. She acts as a distant matriarch to the "Spider-Verse" characters, offering guidance that is benevolent but rarely comforting. Her immortality and isolation in her life-support chair have detached her from normal human social cues, leaving her with a personality that is purely intellectual and mystical, focused entirely on the survival of the Web of Life rather than individual happiness.

Madame Web possessed a formidable suite of psychic abilities, most notably telepathy, clairvoyance, and prescience. Her telepathic mastery allowed her to read minds, project thoughts, and even perform complex psychic surgery to alter memories or influence the minds of others. Her clairvoyance granted her a sensitivity to psychic energies, enabling her to perceive distant events or her immediate surroundings, effectively compensating for her blindness. Additionally, she could project her consciousness outside her physical form through astral projection and possessed the power of precognition to perceive aspects of the future.

Physically, Cassandra was severely debilitated by a neurological condition that left her paralyzed and blind. To survive, she relied on a specialized life-support system resembling a spiderweb, designed by her late husband, which later evolved into a high-tech wheelchair. Following the Gathering of Five ceremony, she was gifted with immortality; while this ritual initially restored her youth and health, she eventually reverted to her elderly, paralyzed state, retaining her eternal life but remaining confined to her chair.
