Knull ruled the primordial universe alone until the arrival of the Celestials, who began filling his domain with matter, light and life. He went to war against them and their creations to return the universe to the dark void, creating many powerful weapons to aid him, including the Necrosword and the Klyntar symbiotes. Knull is the primordial deity of the abyss, a being who existed in the infinite void long before the Big Bang brought light and matter into existence. When the Celestials arrived to begin the process of creation, Knull viewed their light as a violent intrusion upon his kingdom of shadow. He responded by manifesting a blade of living darkness from his own shadow and decapitating one of the cosmic giants. He used the severed, glowing head of the Celestial as a forge to temper his weapon, creating All-Black the Necrosword. This blade was the first symbiote, a sentient tool of deicide that Knull used to cut a path of slaughter across the stars for eons.

As his crusade continued, Knull expanded his influence by creating a vast army of symbiote dragons and lesser organisms to serve as a collective hive mind. These creatures were direct extensions of his will, designed to smother the light of every sun and enslave every living soul. He reigned as the undisputed King in Black, using his telepathic connection to the hive to coordinate planetary extinctions. However, his control was not absolute. During a battle on ancient Earth, a bolt of divine lightning from Thor severed Knull’s connection to his dragons, leaving the hive in a state of confusion and allowing the first seeds of rebellion to take root.

The symbiotes that remained began to bond with various hosts across the galaxy, slowly absorbing concepts like honor, nobility, and mercy. These new emotions poisoned the hive against their creator. The symbiotes eventually turned on Knull, swarming over him in a massive, living shell that grew to the size of a planet. They named this world Klyntar, a word in their language that translates to "Cage." For centuries, Knull remained imprisoned at the core of the planet, his name forgotten by most of the universe while the symbiotes reinvented themselves as a race of protectors known as the Agents of the Cosmos.

The modern era saw the awakening of the God of Symbiotes after the Grendel dragon was unearthed and reactivated on Earth. Through the collection of genetic codexes left behind in previous hosts, Knull’s consciousness was restored, allowing him to break free from Klyntar and reclaim his army. He launched a full scale invasion of Earth, bringing with him a swarm of symbiote dragons and eldritch horrors like Big Mother to prepare the world for his arrival. His goal was to reclaim his throne and plunge the universe back into the eternal darkness of the void, effectively resetting existence to the state of the primordial abyss.

Appearance: Knull has pale grey skin. His eyes are a glowing red color. Long, voluminous white hair flows from his head and extends down past his waist. His torso is covered by a black suit that features a large red multi-pointed symbol across the chest. Large black pauldrons with several sharp, jagged spikes cover his shoulders. His arms are encased in black sleeves with numerous horizontal ridges. His pale hands end in long, sharp, curved black claws. His legs are covered in black trousers that feature the same horizontal ridged texture as his arms. He holds a large, jagged red sword in his left hand. Numerous thin, black, swirling tendrils protrude from various points behind and around his body.

Personality: Knull is a being of absolute and unyielding nihilism who views the entirety of the Multiverse as a cosmic trespass. To him, the creation of stars and life was a violent act of desecration against the primordial silence of the abyss. He does not possess the petty motivations of mortal villains; he is driven by a singular, cold conviction that the universe must be returned to its natural state of total darkness. He is profoundly arrogant and patient, possessing the perspective of a being who has watched galaxies form and fade while remaining unchanged. There is no room for mercy or negotiation in his mind, only the quiet certainty that the light will eventually flicker out.

His relationship with his own creations, the Klyntar, is one of total and parasitic ownership. He does not view them as a race or a people but as a billion shards of his own shadow that have been temporarily lost to the "poison" of morality and honor. To Knull, the rebellion of the symbiotes was not a revolution but a malfunction of his own biological tools. He views the Celestials with a pure, ancient hatred, seeing them as the arrogant architects of the noise that disturbed his sleep. Among the inhabitants of Earth, he holds a particular disdain for Eddie Brock, whom he considers a pathetic host clinging to a fragment of power that belongs solely to the King in Black.

Knull’s physiology is that of a primordial deity, standing as a being of such immense power that he can decapitate a Celestial with a single strike or tear through the Sentry with his bare hands. His strength and near-invincibility are partially fed by a metaphysical link to the cosmic corpse of the first Celestial he slaughtered, a connection channeled through his primary weapon. Even when this divine tether is severed, he remains a threat capable of fighting All-Father Thor on equal ground, possessing the durability to survive atmospheric re-entry and the heat of stellar plasma without sustaining permanent damage.

As the architect of the living abyss, he commands the eldritch darkness that existed before the universe itself. This power allows him to manifest everything from planet-sized domes of shadow to the parasitic symbiote race, including specialized horrors like symbiote dragons and Big Mother. His authority over these creations is absolute; he serves as the central nexus of their hive mind, capable of remote-piloting them across the stars or driving them into a state of mindless bloodlust. His influence even extends to other dark entities, allowing him to corrupt and dominate beings like the Void or Moondragon who were never part of his original design.

Time has little meaning to a being who is over thirteen billion years old and effectively unable to be truly killed. Knull’s healing factor allows him to regenerate entire limbs in seconds, and even the complete disintegration of his physical form only forces his consciousness to seek a new host within the hive. He possesses the utility of a cosmic god, including the ability to manifest draconic wings for flight, tear open portals to other realities, and even reach through the timestream to manipulate events in the past. If the universe finds itself without a King in Black, it will eventually reconstruct him to fill the position, ensuring his nihilistic presence remains a permanent fixture of existence.

His primary tools of conquest are his shapeshifting symbiote armor and All-Black the Necrosword, the first symbiote ever forged from his own shadow. The armor provides a protective, adaptive layer that can manifest capes, helmets, or weaponry, while the Necrosword serves as his ultimate instrument of deicide. Beyond raw physical combat, he can manipulate dark energy into fiery purple beams or homing projectiles, turning the environment itself into a weapon. His fighting style is born from billions of years of slaughter, making him a vicious warrior who relies on instinct and overwhelming force to extinguish the light of the stars.

Despite his deific status, he remains vulnerable to "the Light," a force that encompasses both literal solar radiation and abstract concepts like compassion or nobility. These forces can disrupt his mental hold over the hive or cause him significant physical pain. He also shares a sympathetic link with the symbiotes he directly pilots, meaning that any damage dealt to his puppets is reflected onto his true body. While he can sustain himself indefinitely in the vacuum of space without food or air, he remains susceptible to powerful magic from outside his realm, which can temporarily destabilize his form and force him into a long, regenerative slumber.
