Tenya Ida, later taking the hero name Ingenium, was born into a family with a long history of professional hero work and entered U.A. High School’s Class 1-A determined to uphold that legacy through discipline and hard work. He quickly became one of the class’s most responsible students and was elected class representative. During the villain attack at the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, Iida escaped the facility to alert U.A.’s staff, helping bring reinforcements that ended the attack. He later competed in the U.A. Sports Festival, advancing deep into the tournament while demonstrating the speed granted by his Engine Quirk.

Ida’s life changed when the Hero Killer Stain attacked his older brother, Tensei Iida, leaving the original Ingenium unable to continue his career. Consumed by anger, Tenya accepted an internship in Hosu primarily so he could hunt Stain himself. He found the villain attacking another hero and challenged him alone, nearly getting himself killed until Izuku Midoriya and Shoto Todoroki intervened. The three ultimately defeated Stain, but Iida suffered a serious injury to his left arm and was forced to confront how completely revenge had compromised the ideals he claimed to represent. Afterward, he resolved to become worthy of his brother’s name rather than merely inherit it.

Returning to U.A., Tenya resumed training with a more mature understanding of heroism. He opposed the unauthorized plan to rescue Katsuki Bakugo after the forest training camp but ultimately accompanied the group in an effort to prevent his friends from recklessly engaging the villains themselves. Iida later passed the Provisional Hero License Exam, allowing him to participate legally in emergency hero work. By the time Class 1-A prepared for the School Festival, he had firmly settled into his role as one of the class’s most dependable organizers and continued developing himself under the name Ingenium.

Appearance: Iida has fair peach skin and a tall, powerfully athletic build with broad shoulders, a thick chest, long muscular limbs, and a narrow waist. His eyes are dark blue-gray behind slim rectangular glasses. His hair is very dark navy blue, cut short with a heavy side-swept fringe and layered strands around the ears. His hero suit combines deep navy fabric with extensive white and pale gray armor. A broad white chest plate covers his upper torso in angular overlapping sections, while several tightly stacked gray bands wrap horizontally around his abdomen and are crossed by narrow blue and gold vertical details. White armor caps his shoulders and extends into large pointed forearm guards, while dark navy gloves cover his hands. The upper legs remain mostly dark navy, with broad white armored bands around the thighs and large angular knee guards. His lower legs are almost completely enclosed by massive white engine-like greaves with segmented plating, gray mechanical joints, and large gold turbine housings mounted along the outer calves. His boots are heavy, white, and sharply segmented with thick armored soles and reinforced toes.

His helmet is predominantly white with a long angular brow, squared cheek structures, and several pointed fins extending upward and backward from the crown. A dark visor spans the upper face with narrow openings around it, while the lower half is covered by a rigid white mouth guard perforated by multiple small ventilation holes and vertical slits near the cheeks. A tall dark navy collar rises tightly around his neck beneath the helmet. Several long metallic exhaust pipes project upward from his back in paired clusters, each dark gray with open circular ends and layered mechanical bases connected to the upper suit. Additional engine components appear along the backs and sides of his calves, built from gold cylindrical housings with repeated circular openings, reinforcing the heavily mechanical construction of his lower-body armor.

Personality: Tenya is serious, principled, highly organized, and intensely devoted to rules. His formal manner and tendency to make exaggerated chopping gestures can make him appear rigid, but his strictness comes from a genuine desire to protect the people around him and maintain order when situations become chaotic. The attack on Tensei exposes a far more emotional side of him, showing that anger and grief can overwhelm the discipline he normally depends upon. Surviving his encounter with Stain leaves Tenya more humble and self-aware, and he becomes increasingly careful about judging classmates who make mistakes after experiencing how badly his own emotions once distorted his decisions.

Tensei Ida, the original Ingenium, is Tenya’s greatest inspiration and the standard by which he measures his own heroism. Izuku Midoriya becomes one of his closest friends after U.A.’s entrance exam and later risks his life to save Tenya from Stain, while Shoto Todoroki joins that rescue and shares the burden of keeping the incident from destroying Tenya’s future. Ochaco Uraraka is another early friend from Class 1-A, and the three frequently spend time together during their first months at U.A. Tenya respects Shota Aizawa as his teacher and takes his responsibilities as class representative seriously, often placing himself in the role of keeping Class 1-A organized even when his classmates find his formality excessive.

Tenya’s Quirk, Engine, gives him powerful engine-like organs in his calves that propel him at extraordinary speed. He can accelerate rapidly, maintain high-speed movement across long distances, and convert that momentum into devastating kicks and tackles. His strongest early technique, Recipro Burst, temporarily pushes his engines far beyond their normal output for a dramatic increase in speed, though the strain causes them to stall afterward and leaves him vulnerable until they recover.

Ida is also a disciplined hand-to-hand fighter who builds his combat style almost entirely around his legs and forward momentum. His training emphasizes precise movement, rapid rescue, and using his speed to reach endangered people faster than conventional heroes can. Even when he is not fighting, that mobility makes Ingenium especially effective at evacuation, emergency response, and carrying information across a battlefield.
