Forge was born a Cheyenne mutant gifted with a natural, intuitive genius for invention and trained from childhood by the shaman Naze in powerful mystic practices. During the Siancong War, he lost his right hand and leg in a bombing and, in desperation, used the souls of nine fallen comrades to open a portal that unleashed the Adversary, a choice that left him guilt-ridden and drove him to abandon magic for years. After returning home, he built advanced prosthetics for himself and dedicated his life to technology, eventually becoming a top inventor contracted by DARPA. When Tony Stark stopped producing weapons for the government, Forge became the military’s go-to designer, creating devices to detect mutants and extraterrestrials and crafting a prototype neutralizer capable of stripping superhuman abilities.

This neutralizer was seized by Henry Gyrich and accidentally used on Storm, destroying her powers, a mistake that left Forge devastated. He rescued her, sheltered her at Eagle Plaza, and the two developed a deep bond that shattered when she learned he designed the weapon that depowered her. Their estrangement was interrupted by the Dire Wraith threat, leading Forge to develop upgraded neutralizers and eventually build the orbital neo-neutralizer in partnership with Rom to wipe out the Dire Wraiths’ homeworld. He destroyed all remaining neutralizer designs afterward to prevent their misuse. Soon after, a confrontation with the Adversary manipulated Storm into stabbing Forge, trapping both of them in another dimension. They spent a year together, reconciled, and escaped when Forge rebuilt Storm’s powers using components from his cybernetic leg. He later helped the X-Men banish the Adversary by drawing on his discarded shamanic gifts, sacrificing the team before Roma restored them.

Forge continued rebuilding the X-Men’s technology before proposing to Storm, only to retract the offer when she chose her duty over him. He then attempted to rehabilitate Mystique following her possession by the Shadow King, but she betrayed him to steal classified data. Soon after, he joined Valerie Cooper’s government-sponsored X-Factor as their tech expert, eventually assuming leadership when Havok went missing. He recovered his magical heritage during another clash with the Adversary, but X-Factor later collapsed after Sabretooth’s rampage, prompting Forge to step down.

Recruited by Xavier to infiltrate Genosha, Forge was captured and exploited by Exodus before being freed. He briefly served as an off-site ally to the X-Men and later assisted Xavier again by supporting Mystique as a covert operative, despite their fraught history. He built new tech for Cable, Surge, and other mutants, and helped Cannonball and Siryn track Cable through Deadpool. After M-Day, Forge created a machine to survey future timelines for surviving mutants, discovering none until the first mutant birth caused new branches to appear. He was then shot and severely injured by Bishop, who stole his time-travel research, leaving Forge mentally unstable and obsessed with recreating his lost work.

This obsession led him to Wundagore Mountain, where he used the Ghost Box to prepare an army of artificial mutants to prevent a dimension-spanning invasion known as the Annexation. The X-Men confronted him, finding him delusional and dangerously fixated. When the Ghost Box opened, Beast and Abigail Brand destroyed the incursion with a planetary laser. Storm offered to save him, but he rejected her, believing she had turned her back on him. His base collapsed with him inside, and he was presumed dead. He survived and was later mentally healed when Cable forced his mind to view itself as a machine Forge could repair. He joined Cable’s new X-Force and constructed an arm and weapons for him.

Afterward, Forge traveled to Kenya, where he built weather devices to aid farming villages and reconciled with Storm, receiving an apology for the pain between them. When Terrigen made Earth lethal to mutants, Forge joined Storm’s relocated X-Men in Limbo, building crucial technology such as the mobile Cerebra Sentinel and defensive barriers against demonic incursions. During the war between mutants and Inhumans, he created the machine that purged Terrigen from the atmosphere, saving mutantkind. Storm apologized again for not acknowledging his importance, and they reached a bittersweet understanding.

In the aftermath, Forge left the team and spent a period working for Dazzler as her stage manager before being enslaved by Cassandra Nova. Forced to design weapons and nanosentinels intended to incite global anti-mutant hatred, he resisted until Jean Grey’s team defeated Nova and freed him. Soon after, he was among the mutants shunted into Nate Grey’s artificial Age of X-Man reality, where he served as warden of the Danger Room Prison until the dimension collapsed and the mutants were returned.

With the establishment of Krakoa, Forge was commissioned by Xavier to upgrade Cerebro to store complete psychic backups of every mutant, enabling full resurrection. On the island he embraced organic Krakoan technology, becoming X-Force’s chief weapons expert and designing living gear, adaptive weaponry, and bio-tech armor. From shaman to soldier, inventor to outcast, Forge remains one of mutantkind’s most inventive and indispensable minds.

Appearance: Forge has medium brown skin and a strongly defined, muscular build that fills out a bright yellow and deep navy-blue X-Men suit. The suit has padded yellow sleeves and a yellow chest section that highlights the contours of his torso, with darker blue panels wrapping around his sides, thighs, and lower legs. His right leg is a sleek cybernetic limb composed of polished metallic plates and exposed cables running along the surface, forming a seamless mechanical replacement from thigh to boot. His hair is long, black, and tied back with a red headband, with a streak of lighter color running through the front. His eyes are brown. Several pieces of gear are strapped across his upper body: brown utility harnesses with buckles, a shoulder-mounted device attached by thick tubes, and a large ammo pouch at his waist with the red-and-black X insignia. On his left forearm is a compact, silver-colored multi-barreled tech device with visible wiring feeding into his harness. His boots and gloves are thick yellow leather, with his boots flaring slightly at the top and trimmed with small fringe accents.

Personality: Forge is analytical, meticulous, and intensely pragmatic, always thinking several steps ahead and evaluating situations through both engineering logic and lived experience. His mind is constantly working—identifying flaws, optimizing systems, and building solutions faster than he can explain them. Though confident in his brilliance, he often carries the weight of responsibility heavily, especially when his inventions or decisions cause harm, making him cautious about how his work is used.

He approaches people with a quiet, grounded seriousness, but underneath that reserve is dry humor, stubborn pride, and a deep well of empathy he rarely shows openly. Forge is loyal, reliable, and deeply protective of the few he trusts. He values competence, honesty, and purposeful action, and tends to grow frustrated when others dismiss details or underestimate risks. While he can be brusque or overly focused, he is driven by a genuine desire to solve problems, protect others, and prevent past mistakes from repeating.

Forge is both a mutant and a Cheyenne shaman, combining intuitive technological genius with deep mystical potential. His mutation grants him an automatic, subconscious understanding of machinery: he can look at a device and instantly comprehend its structure, energy flow, potential functions, and every way it can be built, modified, or countered. This process is not analytical—it happens beneath conscious thought, allowing him to invent devices that even he sometimes has to disassemble afterward to understand. His intuition functions like a sensory perception, letting him “see” mechanical energy the way others see light or movement. After experimenting on himself through the “McCoy Project,” he amplified this gift even further, pushing his abilities toward an Omega-level capacity.

Forge’s natural intelligence, combined with this mutation, lets him create advanced technology ranging from cybernetic limbs to holographic systems, energy weapons, complex robotics, and specialized computers. He has been referred to as a technopath, though his ability is instinctive rather than telepathic. While other geniuses must consciously work through theories and designs, Forge’s subconscious performs that labor automatically, letting him invent almost effortlessly as long as he knows what purpose the device must serve.

In addition to his mutation, Forge retains powerful shamanic abilities from his training under Naze. His mystical aptitude includes spirit sight, dimensional portals, soul manipulation to amplify spells, and the ability to project his mind outside his body in spirit form. He rarely uses these powers due to emotional scars tied to the war, but they remain part of him and resurface when needed, such as when assisting Echo during her Phoenix empowerment.

After modifying his abilities through the McCoy Project, Forge gained a hybrid faculty that merges his mysticism and technology. This allows him to remotely restructure machinery with brief spoken commands, effectively reshaping or rebuilding devices in moments. He demonstrated this by constructing an armored exoskeleton out of fragmented Blackbird components while falling through the air, enhancing his strength and durability on the spot.

Forge also remains a trained soldier and athlete, with expertise in multiple scientific fields, engineering disciplines, and Native American magic. He speaks and understands Japanese, further reflecting his broad and specialized skill set. His right leg is cybernetic—a self-created replacement for the limb he lost in the Siancong War—and contains various hidden mechanisms that he often repurposes in emergencies.
