Angelica Jones manifests her mutant microwave powers at thirteen, soon after the death of her grandmother leaves her alone with her father Bart. Emma Frost recruits her to the Massachusetts Academy, where Angelica believes she has found help and guidance, but Frost is secretly isolating her so she can shape Firestar into a weapon for the Hellfire Club. Randall Chase, Angelica’s bodyguard, dies exposing Frost’s deception, and Angelica leaves the Academy after realizing how thoroughly she has been used.

After returning home, Angelica tries to stay out of hero work until Night Thrasher draws her into the founding of the New Warriors. With them, she becomes a more experienced hero and develops a lasting relationship with Vance Astrovik, later known as Justice. Before joining the Avengers beside him, she learns that her microwave powers are harming her body, but Hank Pym creates a suit that siphons off the excess radiation and lets her keep using her abilities with less danger.

Angelica later steps away from active hero life, returns in different crises, and eventually becomes part of the mutant nation’s struggles. During the fall of Krakoa, Jean Grey asks her to infiltrate Orchis, forcing Firestar to appear as a traitor while secretly sabotaging the organization from within. The mission leaves her hated by many people she was trying to save, and after Orchis falls, that damage follows her into a low point. War Machine then brings her into the new West Coast Avengers, where her own need for recovery becomes part of the team’s larger attempt at redemption.

Appearance: Firestar has fair peach skin and a tall, slim athletic build with a full chest, narrow waist, and long fitted legs. She has fiery orange-red hair that spreads into flame-like waves around her head, with green eyes visible through a bright white mask shaped in sharp sweeping points around the eyes. Her suit is a tight yellow, red, and black bodysuit with flame-shaped yellow paneling across the chest, shoulders, waist, hips, and arms, with darker black sections running through the torso and lower body.

A glowing white starburst emblem sits on the center of her chest. Her arms are covered by long red-and-yellow fitted sleeves that blend into yellow gloves, and her lower suit continues into smooth black leggings with yellow flame-shaped sections rising along the hips and thighs.

Personality: Angelica Jones is compassionate but not naïve, especially after Emma Frost manipulates her during her time at the Massachusetts Academy. She wants to believe people can help her, yet betrayal makes her cautious about authority figures who claim to know what is best for her. As Firestar, she often comes across as sincere and emotionally grounded, but she can be firm when someone tries to use her powers or decide her future for her. Her fear of hurting herself with her own microwave energy also gives her a quieter kind of bravery, because she keeps fighting even when her body pays for it.

Her father Bart Jones is one of her earliest anchors, though her mutant life repeatedly pulls her away from any normal home. Emma Frost is one of the most damaging figures in Angelica’s life, since she isolates her and tries to shape her into a Hellfire weapon. Randall Chase matters because his death exposes the truth and pushes Angelica to break free from Frost’s control. With the New Warriors, Angelica finds people closer to her own age who help her become a real hero rather than someone else’s project. Vance Astrovik becomes her most important romantic bond during this period, and their shared growth eventually leads them toward the Avengers together.

Firestar’s mutant power is microwave radiation generation and control. She can release that energy as intense heat blasts, raise temperatures in objects from a distance, melt through barriers, overload machinery, and strike enemies with focused bursts strong enough to injure superhuman opponents. Her power is not ordinary flame; it works by exciting molecules and producing heat through microwave energy, which makes it useful against armor, weapons, and structures that would resist normal fire.

She can also fly by using her energy output for lift and propulsion, leaving a fiery-looking aura around herself when airborne. Her powers once created a serious health risk because the radiation built up inside her own body, threatening long-term damage, but Hank Pym designs a special costume that vents and regulates the excess energy. Outside her mutation, Angelica is an experienced field hero trained through her time with the New Warriors, making her capable of using a dangerous power in team combat without losing control of the battlefield.
