Dex-Starr began life as an ordinary housecat named Dexter, deeply bonded with the woman who adopted him. He lived a simple, affectionate life until the night an intruder broke into their home. Dexter clawed and attacked to defend her, but he was helpless to stop the murderer. His owner was killed before his eyes, and the police who arrived afterward dismissed him, angrily kicking him out of the apartment instead of comforting him.

Alone and grieving, Dexter wandered the streets until two hoodlums found him, shoved him in a sack, and threw him into a river for amusement. As he sank, filled with terror and heartbreak, the rage inside him flared so powerfully that a Red Lantern Ring detected it. Atrocitus summoned him, and the ring transformed Dexter into Dex-Starr, a full Red Lantern with the ability to channel his fury into lethal power.

Empowered and burning with vengeance, Dex-Starr tracked down the men who tried to drown him and killed them without hesitation. He then returned to his late owner’s apartment, curling beside her body and promising, “I find who hurt you. I kill. I good kitty.”

From then on, Dex-Starr fought alongside the Red Lantern Corps. While traveling through Space Sector 666, he encountered a group of aliens who amused themselves by torturing weaker beings. Dex-Starr attacked them immediately but was overwhelmed due to his small size. Atrocitus arrived in time, slaughtering the tormentors and scolding them for hurting “his cat,” then carried Dex-Starr back to Ysmault for healing.

Later, after Atrocitus dealt with Bleez, he returned to find Dex-Starr guarding the corpse of Krona with unwavering loyalty. Atrocitus picked him up and petted him—something Dex-Starr still secretly adores.

Dex-Starr remains one of the most fiercely loyal and deceptively dangerous members of the Red Lantern Corps: a tiny cat fueled by grief strong enough to burn across the universe.

Appearance: Dex-Starr has blue-gray fur, short and dense across his body. His eyes are a vivid, glowing yellow with slit pupils that stand out sharply against the darker tones of his face. His ears are pointed, with soft pink skin visible inside, and the fur around his muzzle lightens slightly toward a pale gray that frames a small pink nose. His fangs are long, sharply tapered. His front paws are each tipped with long, curved white claws that are thick at the base and sharp at the ends. The Red Lantern ring sits tightly on the furred base of his tail, glowing faintly. His Red Lantern uniform covers his torso and upper limbs in a glossy red material that contrasts with the matte texture of his fur. Around his neck is the circular Red Lantern emblem, metallic and highly polished, embedded in the chest of the uniform.

Personality: Dex-Starr thinks and behaves like a fiercely protective, emotionally driven creature. His loyalty is absolute toward anyone he bonds with, and his affection comes in small, raw, honest gestures, but any threat instantly flips him into a violent, animalistic fury. He communicates simply and bluntly, often with short phrases or cat-like sounds, mixing instinct with the power of his ring. He harbors deep grief beneath his rage, and while he lashes out without hesitation, he also clings desperately to moments of comfort, softness, and trust (Which he usually finds with Atrocitus himself).

Dex-Starr’s natural abilities come from his small feline body, giving him traits unique to a housecat. His senses are exceptionally sharp: his ears detect far higher-pitched sounds than a human’s, his eyesight allows him to see far better in the dark, and his sense of smell is over an order of magnitude stronger than human olfaction. His claws and fangs are built for cutting into prey or defending himself, and despite being domesticated, he retains the hunting instincts needed to catch small animals. Beneath all of this lies an irrational, overwhelming hatred that constantly fuels him.

Dex-Starr carries a Red Lantern Power Battery, which he uses to recharge his ring by reciting the Red Lantern oath. His Red Lantern Ring grants him a wide range of lethal abilities powered entirely by rage. After consuming Rankorr’s blood, he learned to create hard-light constructs, shaping his fury into physical objects with strength proportional to his emotional intensity. He can generate force fields of varying size and durability, fire destructive blasts of red energy, and fly through the air or space without technological aid. The ring also provides universal translation, allowing Dex-Starr to understand any language—even though he communicates only in simple, primal phrases due to his feline mind.
