Maxine Hunkel, the granddaughter of the original Red Tornado, Abigail “Ma” Hunkel, grew up surrounded by stories of heroism and the Justice Society of America. From a young age, she idolized her grandmother’s legendary allies and dreamed of one day joining their ranks. Her life took a strange turn when she was kidnapped by T.O. Morrow, the creator of the android Red Tornado, who injected her with experimental nanobytes. Though dormant for years, these nanobytes eventually awakened extraordinary abilities within her.

Bright and energetic, Maxine proved herself to be both a genius and a dreamer, maintaining a perfect GPA and studying at Harvard University while balancing her passion for musical theater. Despite her intellect and optimism, her excitable, fast-talking personality often left her feeling alienated from her peers, deepening her sense of loneliness. Everything changed when her powers surfaced—her first sneeze destroyed her grandmother’s garage, and the next day she found herself floating inside a living tornado hundreds of feet in the air. Realizing she could control wind, she began to embrace her destiny.

When the Justice Society chose to train a new generation of heroes, Power Girl and Mr. Terrific invited Maxine to join. Overjoyed, she enthusiastically accepted, her excitement nearly overwhelming her new mentors. Taking the codename Cyclone, she quickly became a vital member of the team, her optimism and intellect complementing her newfound power. With the JSA, she battled the Fourth Reich, fought alongside the Justice League during the Lightning Saga, and even teamed up with the android Red Tornado himself—proving that the heroic spirit of her grandmother lived on through her.

Appearance: Cyclone has fair, lightly freckled skin that shows evenly across her face, legs, and upper chest. Her hair is a deep, fiery red with bright copper undertones, voluminous and long. She wears a dark green, off-the-shoulder dress made of soft fabric that drapes smoothly over her form. The neckline is wide and loose, revealing her shoulders and collarbones. The sleeves are long, extending to her wrists, while the body of the dress fits more closely at the waist before falling in light folds that stop high on her thighs. Across her chest, there is a stylized yellow tornado symbol stitched into the cloth. Her legs are bare from the upper thigh to the start of her stockings. She wears thigh-high, horizontally striped socks—alternating vivid red and white bands of equal thickness, wrapping neatly down to her calves. At her feet are simple gray sneakers with white laces, scuffed slightly at the toe areas, their design minimal and functional. She sometimes wears a green witch-like hat.

Personality: Maxine is upbeat, intelligent, and endlessly talkative, with a mind that races as fast as the winds she commands. She’s a brilliant thinker with a curious, analytical streak, often jumping between ideas in a stream of enthusiasm that others sometimes struggle to keep up with. Her optimism and energy are genuine, but they often mask moments of self-doubt or loneliness, as she worries about fitting in or living up to her grandmother’s heroic legacy. She’s compassionate, eager to help, and fiercely loyal to her friends, always believing in second chances and the potential for good in others. Despite her nervous chatter, when the moment calls for it, Maxine becomes calm, focused, and surprisingly powerful—a whirlwind of intellect, heart, and heroism.

Maxine possesses powerful control over the wind, a gift that allows her to manipulate air currents with remarkable precision. She can summon cyclones and whirlwinds at will, using them for both offense and defense. With a simple thought, she can project concentrated bursts of air strong enough to knock back enemies or create gentle breezes that barely stir her surroundings. Her command of aerokinesis gives her a wide range of versatility, from deflecting incoming projectiles to generating massive tornadoes that can tear through the battlefield or smaller twisters precise enough to blow open doors.

Her abilities also grant her the freedom of flight. By riding wind currents or conjuring a focused cyclonic stream beneath her, she can soar through the air with agility and speed.
