Congorilla

William “Congo Bill” Glenmorgan was a former soldier, spy, and adventurer who became a protector in Africa under the name Congo Bill. After Chief Kawolo gave him a magic ring, Bill learned that rubbing it could transfer his mind into the body of a legendary golden gorilla, while the gorilla’s mind entered his human body. When an earthquake trapped Bill in a cave, he used the ring, escaped through the gorilla’s strength, and began operating as Congorilla.

Bill later became permanently trapped in the golden gorilla body after his human body died. He protected a band of gorillas and became close to Freedom Beast, but hunters slaughtered them, pushing Congorilla into a revenge hunt that led him toward Prometheus. He later worked with Starman and a Justice League splinter group, then remained active as a powerful heroic figure after losing his original human life.

Appearance: Congorilla has golden-yellow fur. He has yellow colored eyes. He has a massive, heavily muscular gorilla build with an exceptionally thick torso, broad shoulders, massive forearms, and large thighs. Thick, shaggy fur covers his head, shoulders, arms, and legs. His face, ears, chest, abdominal area, hands, and feet are bare, revealing leathery brown skin underneath.

His wide mouth features sharp, prominent canine teeth along both his upper and lower jaws. He has large, thick-fingered hands with flat fingernails. His lower limbs terminate in large, hand-like feet featuring elongated, opposable toes.

Personality: William Glenmorgan is protective, stubborn, and driven by old adventurer instincts. As Congo Bill, he swears to protect his adopted African home, and after becoming trapped permanently in the golden gorilla body, he continues acting as a guardian rather than abandoning that duty. His revenge hunt after the slaughter of the gorillas and Freedom Beast shows that his restraint can break when those under his protection are murdered.

Chief Kawolo is the friend who gives Bill the magic ring that first links him to the golden gorilla. Janu becomes one of his early allies during his jungle adventures. Freedom Beast is one of his closest later bonds, and his death pushes Congorilla toward Prometheus. Starman becomes his major ally after that conflict, with the two eventually serving together in the Justice League.

Congorilla has the body of an enchanted golden gorilla, giving him superhuman strength, durability, stamina, agility, reflexes, regeneration, and heightened senses. He can also grow in size and has virtual immortality after being permanently bonded to the gorilla body.

Before becoming Congorilla, William Glenmorgan was already a trained adventurer, hunter, marksman, and explorer. His original transformation came through Chief Kawolo’s magic ring, which let him transfer his mind into the golden gorilla while the gorilla’s mind entered his human body.
