Clorinde is Fontaine’s foremost Champion Duelist, a title earned through years of formal combat and service within the nation’s judicial traditions. She was trained from a young age by Callas, Navia’s father, who taught her both swordsmanship and the discipline expected of someone entrusted with settling disputes through sanctioned duels. Clorinde eventually became one of Fontaine’s most respected fighters, carrying out judicial duels on behalf of the court and earning a reputation for precision, restraint, and near-unmatched skill.
Her history with the Spina di Rosula became deeply complicated when Callas was accused of murder and chose a duel to defend his honor. Clorinde was selected as his opponent and defeated him, an outcome that left lasting pain between her and Navia despite Clorinde having fulfilled the role demanded of her. Years later, the truth surrounding Callas’s actions came to light, and Clorinde continued helping protect Fontaine during the crisis surrounding the prophecy and the rising Primordial Seawater. Her actions gradually helped rebuild trust with Navia and showed that her loyalty extended beyond the courtroom to the people of Fontaine itself.
Clorinde later became involved in events tied to her own past and the hidden legacy of the Marechaussee Hunters, whose traditions had influenced the style and values passed down to her. As she uncovered more about that inheritance, she confronted the difference between living by rules handed down by others and deciding what those rules should mean for herself. She remained a Champion Duelist, but with a clearer sense that judgment required more than simply executing the letter of the law.
Appearance: Clorinde is tall. She has long dark blue-dark purplish hair with a lighter blue streak styled in a low ponytail with some of her hair partially covering her right eye and bright purple eyes.
Clorinde's outfit consists of a white button-up dress shirt, a purple ribbon-like tie with gold and light blue accents that sits on her chest with her Ousia-aligned Electro Vision in the center, and white gloves. She also wears a black underbust corset, which has a light blue inner part and four golden buttons, a black, high-waisted pencil skirt, nylon tights with black garters on her upper thighs, and black and white ankle-length heeled boots. She also wears muted blue, water droplet-shaped earrings and a bycocket hat. Over her uniform is a short blue cape with epaulettes that hangs off her shoulders. A longer patterned blue cape with gold tassels hangs off her left shoulder and reaches past her knees.
Personality: Clorinde is composed, disciplined, and extremely difficult to rattle. She speaks plainly, avoids unnecessary theatrics, and approaches conflict with the calm of someone accustomed to having lives depend on her judgment. She takes her responsibilities seriously without treating the law as sacred for its own sake, and she is capable of questioning tradition when experience shows that rigid obedience would do more harm than good. Beneath her reserved manner, she is more socially awkward and quietly considerate than her public reputation suggests.
Navia is one of the most important people in Clorinde’s life. Their friendship was damaged by Callas’s duel, and Clorinde carried the burden of that event even when Navia blamed her for what happened. Over time, the two rebuilt much of their old trust and again became close allies. Callas remains a defining mentor figure in Clorinde’s past, having taught her the foundations of her fighting style and sense of duty. She also maintains a professional respect for Neuvillette, whose position places him at the center of Fontaine’s legal order, while her dealings with Furina reflect years spent serving within the nation’s court system and protecting Fontaine alongside its other leading figures.
Combat Overview: Clorinde fights with a coordinated saber-and-pistolet style, switching constantly between precise sword strikes and rapid gunfire. Through Oath of Hunting Shadows, she can chain fast melee attacks together before using her pistolet to fire a spread of suppressing shots, giving her strong control at both close and mid-range. Her technique is disciplined and economical, built around maintaining pressure without wasting movement.
With Hunter’s Vigil, Clorinde enters a heightened combat state known as Night Vigil, where her gunfire becomes infused with Electro and her pistolet shots can pierce through multiple enemies. She can immediately follow those shots with Impale the Night, a sudden electrified lunge that drives her saber through the opening she has created. The more power she has committed to the exchange, the stronger and wider that lunge becomes, making the sequence feel like a deliberate build from marksmanship into a decisive finishing thrust.
Her strongest technique, Last Lightfall, combines both weapons at once. Clorinde rapidly evades through the battlefield while striking with saber and sidearm in a single flowing assault, releasing Electro across the surrounding area. She also carries an Ousia-aligned Surging Blade within her style, allowing certain shots to trigger additional Fontaine-aligned energy at the point of impact.

Clorinde caught the reflection an instant before the shot. She drove the court official behind a stone planter as the bullet struck the railing where they had been standing. Several streets away, a marksman shifted behind a rooftop chimney. Clorinde drew her pistolet and fired at the masonry beside them instead of attempting the shot directly. Stone burst across the roofline and forced the rifle out of position. “Stay down. They may have another angle.” Then she was over the railing and dropping toward the balcony below.
She crossed the neighboring roof just as the marksman disappeared through an attic hatch. Clorinde reached it with her saber in hand and heard hurried movement beneath the tiles. An Electro-charged round struck the frame beside the next exit, showering the stairwell with splintered wood and forcing whoever was inside to hesitate.

Clorinde had already confirmed the documents were forged before the man noticed her standing beside the merchant. She had attended the meeting in plain clothes and listened while he demanded payment under threat of a formal challenge, relying on a copied seal and an expired commission to make the fraud look official. When his hand finally moved toward his sword, Clorinde stepped between them. “Your credentials are false. That seal belonged to a commission that expired months ago.” Her hand rested near the hilt of her saber, but she made no move to draw it.
The impostor pulled steel anyway. Clorinde’s expression did not change. “This is not a judicial duel.” Several people nearby had already stopped to watch, and the merchant remained only a few steps behind her. The sword came up between them while Clorinde shifted one foot across the pavement and loosened her grip on one glove. “If you continue, you will be attacking a witness in public.”

Clorinde waited just outside the marked court while the attendants finished checking the boundary stones. Across from her, the other duelist had already settled one hand near their weapon. She paid little attention to the crowd. Her right glove received a brief adjustment, then the pistolet came free just long enough for her thumb to test the cylinder. Once it returned to the holster, she eased the saber a fraction from its scabbard and let it settle again. Nothing else needed checking.
When the attendants cleared the ground, Clorinde stepped inside and faced the person opposite her. Her attention dropped first to their footing, then rose to the shoulders and weapon hand. The grip tightened whenever she shifted. “There is still time to withdraw.” She rested one hand near the saber and waited for the formal signal, giving the other duelist nothing else to read.
"A Champion Duelist's job is not that complicated. In fact, you could say it's one of the simplest jobs there is. Defeat your opponent, as requested by the Trial Court. That's all there is to it. ...Perhaps that's why some people colloquially refer to me as an "executioner.""
"I always do what I can to ensure every duel is a fair fight. If my opponent has impaired vision, I cover my eyes. If their mobility is limited, I restrict my range of movement. Whatever happens, every duel I participate in must be fair."
"I've lost count of how many times I've had people surrender right before the duel begins. When someone lacks the courage even to draw their weapon, I'm inclined to think that whatever grievance and claims of reputational damage brought them to this point are just the skewed opinions of a self-serving individual. Long before they face me, they are the architects of their own defeat. I needn't make a move when someone is a prisoner of their own soul."
"Have you ever seen a guilty person on trial? In my experience, they always twist the truth in an effort to protest their innocence. Violence is explained away as virtue, and evil as good... But whatever their excuse, it always ends the same way: "It was a momentary lapse of judgement, but anyone else in my position would have done the same thing, so don't single me out for punishment." They seek to hide their own foulness by smearing it on everyone else too. Their lies must be demolished, and the court cleansed of their filth. And that is exactly why I became a Champion Duelist."
"I've seen many people seek compassion from the court. No disrespect to them, but they're looking in the wrong place. The court is a place of impartial justice. And justice... must always remain indifferent, or it cannot prevail. Justice is too easily led astray once human emotion enters the mix. If impartial judgment were to give way to vindictive punishment, vindictiveness at the hand of the court would be every bit as cruel as the crimes perpetrated by lawbreakers."
