Hanta Sero, known as the Taping Hero Cellophane, is a student in U.A. High School’s Class 1-A training to become a Pro Hero. During the U.S.J. attack, he helped protect the injured Thirteen and supported his classmates against Kurogiri. At the U.A. Sports Festival, Sero advanced into the tournament stage but was immediately overwhelmed by Shoto Todoroki, whose massive ice attack froze him almost instantly. Despite the defeat, Sero received fourteen nominations from Pro Heroes and later selected Cellophane as his hero name.
During the first-term final exams, Sero was paired with Minoru Mineta against Midnight. He used his Tape to pull Mineta away from Midnight’s Somnambulist gas, sacrificing his own chance to remain conscious and allowing Mineta to carry them both through the escape gate. Sero later trained his Quirk at the Forest Training Camp, moved into U.A.’s dormitories after the League of Villains’ attack, and earned his Provisional Hero License after working alongside Izuku Midoriya and Ochaco Uraraka during the examination. By the U.A. School Festival, he remained an active member of Class 1-A and participated in the class performance.
Appearance: Cellophane has light peach skin and a tall, lean athletic build with long limbs, narrow hips, and lightly defined musculature. His eyes are pale blue-gray with small dark pupils. He has short, straight black hair cut close around the sides with uneven pointed strands across the top. His hero costume is dominated by matte black fabric, covering his torso and legs in a close-fitting one-piece suit. A large white angular panel spreads across his chest and abdomen in a jagged lightning-like shape, while a narrow white horizontal band runs across the upper chest beneath the shoulders. Large orange shoulder units sit over both sides, each built around a circular silver-gray mechanism resembling a recessed spool housing. His forearms remain uncovered below the short sleeves, and thick cylindrical tape-dispensing structures are built directly around both elbows, giving the joints an enlarged mechanical shape.
His lower costume remains black through the hips and thighs, broken by small rectangular white fixtures along the outer sides. Thin orange bands encircle the legs just below the knees. Tall white boots cover his calves and feet, with broad shafts, smooth rounded toes, and narrow orange edging along the soles. When fully helmeted, his head is enclosed by a streamlined black, and orange helmet with a dark crown, pale side panels, angular orange sections across the front and top, and black lenses covering the face area. The helmet extends down around the cheeks and jaw in a rigid segmented shell, leaving none of his hair visible.
Personality: Sero is sociable, relaxed, humorous, and generally easy to get along with. He enjoys joking with his classmates and occasionally shows off, but he becomes dependable when situations turn dangerous. He is willing to take risks for other people, demonstrated when he deliberately exposed himself to Midnight’s Quirk so Mineta could escape, and he continues trying even when he knows an opponent is significantly stronger than him.
Minoru Mineta is one of Sero’s regular friends despite Sero frequently criticizing his inappropriate behavior, and their final-exam partnership demonstrates considerable mutual trust. Sero is also friendly with Izuku Midoriya and Ochaco Uraraka, cooperating effectively with both during the Provisional Hero License Exam. He gets along well with Rikido Sato and Kyoka Jiro, while his relationship with Shoto Todoroki remains friendly despite their extremely one-sided Sports Festival match. He is comfortable joking with Katsuki Bakugo as well and generally maintains an easygoing relationship with the rest of Class 1-A.
Sero possesses the Quirk Tape, which allows him to eject long strips of durable adhesive tape from dispenser-like organs built into his elbows. He can use the tape to restrain opponents, pull objects or people toward him, create traps, anchor himself to surfaces, and swing rapidly through an environment. His extensive practice gives him excellent mobility and allows him to control several lengths of tape simultaneously during combat and rescue operations.
His named techniques include Tape Barrage, in which he rapidly fires multiple strands to entangle or overwhelm a target, and Tape Shot Trident, which uses several tape strands together to seize multiple points at once. Sero’s combination of mobility, restraint techniques, and quick reactions makes him particularly effective at battlefield control, pursuit, and rescue work.

Sero swung between two training buildings with one tape strand anchored high above the street and another already firing toward the next corner. The mock villain cut through an alley, kicked over a barrier, and looked back just as Sero came around the building sideways. “Yeah, nice try! You’re gonna need more than one trash can to lose me.” He released the first line, skimmed past the barrier, and snapped a fresh strip around a streetlamp to change direction without touching the ground.
The villain ducked through an open window, forcing Sero to brake against the brick with both feet. He peered through the glass, caught movement in the next room, and sent three narrow strips through different openings at once. “C’mon out, I know you’re in there!”
"Unlike some of you, my life wasn't full of wild highs and tragic lows. All I had pushing me forward was, like, not wanting to fall behind on the next practical exam, or whatever. And y'know... it's been some tough times, for him. The guy used to look all zonked-out and empty! Anyone'd be better off... not going through all that miserable, tragic crap!"
