Blue Devil

Blue Devil, Daniel Cassidy, began as a Hollywood stuntman and special-effects expert hired to create and play the title monster in the film Blue Devil. For the role, he built an advanced demon costume with powered armor, weapons, and special-effects systems, but the production accidentally unleashed the demon Nebiros. Cassidy managed to fight Nebiros off, only for the demon’s magic to fuse the costume to his body, trapping him in the Blue Devil form and turning him into a reluctant superhero who kept being pulled into bizarre supernatural conflicts.

Cassidy later became known as a “weirdness magnet,” constantly attracting demons, monsters, and occult threats while trying to regain a normal life. During Underworld Unleashed, he made a deal with Neron that indirectly caused Marla Bloom’s death, deeply damaging his relationship with Eddie Bloomberg, the future Kid Devil. Cassidy died and was restored as an actual demon, eventually becoming a major supernatural hero tied to the Sentinels of Magic and Shadowpact. He later fought escaped demons with Lucifer’s Trident and became one of the world's more prominent occult heroes.

Appearance: Blue Devil has light blue skin and a very tall, massively muscular build with broad shoulders, thick arms, a wide chest, and powerful legs. His body is heavily defined, with prominent muscle shaping across his torso, arms, and abdomen. He has a demonic face with a strong brow, pointed ears, a broad nose, and sharp white teeth visible in his open mouth. His eyes glow red. Two thick dark horns rise from the top of his head, curving upward with ridged, weathered surfaces. He has dark blue-black facial hair along his chin and jaw, forming a short beard that blends into the shadowed lower face. He wears a large tattered gray cloak with ragged edges and holes torn through the fabric. The cloak spreads behind him in wide, uneven panels, with a heavy fur collar around his shoulders. The fur is dark gray-brown, thick, and coarse, layered densely around the upper back and chest area. Across his upper torso is a spotted animal-hide panel in yellow-tan with black markings. A circular metal ornament sits near the chest, shaped with a blue-gray rim and a golden center. His abdomen and part of his chest remain uncovered beneath the fur and hide, showing defined blue musculature. A wide dark belt wraps around his waist in layered bands, secured by multiple buckles and straps. The belt is worn and metallic, with gold and steel-toned hardware. Additional straps cross over the waist and hips, holding the torn lower garments in place. His forearms are fitted with black bracers covered in silver spikes. The bracers wrap tightly around his wrists and forearms, with rows of pointed studs projecting outward. His hands are large and clawed, with long sharp blue nails. His lower body is covered by dark wrapped leggings with a bandaged, layered texture. Over them hangs a torn gray loincloth-like garment with ragged edges and dark stains. Gold straps and buckles wrap around parts of his thighs.

Personality: Blue Devil, Daniel Cassidy, is usually defined by a mix of showman confidence, working-class decency, and frustrated reluctance. He began as a Hollywood stuntman and special-effects expert, so he often brings a practical, physical, somewhat sarcastic attitude to supernatural problems instead of acting like a mystic scholar. Early on, much of his personality comes from being trapped in the Blue Devil identity and treated as a “weirdness magnet,” which leaves him irritated, embarrassed, and desperate for normalcy, but not enough to stop helping people when trouble appears. Over time, after becoming a true demon and joining teams like Shadowpact, he becomes more worn down and serious, though still fundamentally heroic.

His relationships are shaped by guilt, loyalty, and his uneasy place between celebrity hero and supernatural outcast. Eddie Bloomberg, later Kid Devil, is one of his most important connections, beginning as a young fan and sidekick figure before their relationship becomes strained by tragedy and resentment tied to Blue Devil’s deal with Neron. He has also been tied to magical heroes such as Sebastian Faust, Detective Chimp, Ragman, Enchantress, Zatanna, Zauriel, and the Phantom Stranger, especially through the Sentinels of Magic and Shadowpact. Cassidy’s partnerships are often uneasy because he is not a polished occult hero, but he repeatedly proves dependable when the threat is dangerous enough.

Blue Devil is a highly trained stuntman, martial artist, and acrobat with strong practical knowledge of special effects, mechanics, and stage combat. His Blue Devil form gives him superhuman strength, durability, agility, heightened senses, enhanced vision and hearing, a healing factor, and extremely high resistance to physical damage.

His original Blue Devil suit included Kevlar armor, radio equipment, visual and auditory amplifiers, mini-gills for underwater breathing, and servo-motors that greatly increased his strength. After the suit was fused to his body, it became partly organic and could rapidly self-repair. He originally used a mechanical trident of his own design, which included rocket engines, while his later magical Trident of Lucifer allowed him to locate demons on Earth and banish them back to Hell.
