First in line to the Rigelian throne. Prideful, but loves Rinea with all his heart.

Berkut was born into Rigelian nobility as the son of Emperor Rudolf’s younger brother, but his childhood was marred by loss. His father died when Berkut was around ten years old, leaving him timid and insecure, so much so that even riding a horse once made him cry. His mother, determined to ensure that he would not be mocked for being fatherless, raised him under strict discipline to become a man worthy of inheritance and responsibility. However, she too passed away before he reached adulthood. Left alone, Berkut came to view Emperor Rudolf as a surrogate father and devoted himself entirely to the military in hopes of gaining recognition and living up to the expectations set upon him.

As he grew, Berkut sought to embody Rigelian ideals of power and authority. His ambition drove him to orchestrate the coup in Zofia, luring Desaix into treachery and destabilizing the kingdom. He further secured Fernand’s defection from the Deliverance, convincing him to serve Rigel. Throughout these schemes, Berkut’s ultimate aim was to prove himself as heir to Rigel’s throne, believing that victory and conquest would cement his claim. He also commanded the invasion of Zofia, partly as a demonstration of his military prowess. Despite this ruthless ambition, he remained devoted to his fiancée, Rinea, who served as his emotional anchor amid the pressures of war and courtly expectation.

When Berkut first crosses paths with Alm and the Deliverance, he challenges them alongside Fernand more out of arrogance and sport than necessity. Though Alm struggles, Berkut is defeated, a humiliation that deeply wounds his pride. Ashamed, he begs Rudolf for another chance, seeking to redeem himself in battle at the sluice gate. Nuibaba offers him power from Duma through a cursed mirror, but Berkut initially refuses, seeing such reliance on divine power as dishonorable. Still, he takes the mirror with him. At the sluice gate, Berkut throws his full might into battle against Alm, but is defeated again. In his desperation, he shatters Nuibaba’s mirror, unleashing a curse upon the Deliverance. The dark magic horrifies him, while Fernand is shaken, but Alm’s pendant dispels the curse, and Berkut is forced into retreat once more, his pride cut even deeper.

Berkut’s personality is shaped by pride, insecurity, and desperation. Much like Fernand, he places great value on nobility and social standing, but unlike Fernand’s sense of entitlement, Berkut believes he must constantly prove his worth through strength. His upbringing ingrained into him that only might makes right, and his parents’ demands instilled both ambition and fear of failure. While he privately resents the strictness of his parents, he refuses to admit that Rudolf, too, treats him with cold disapproval. He is fiercely proud and carries himself with confidence, yet beneath this exterior he is haunted by self-doubt, walking a razor’s edge between arrogance and despair.

Berkut mistrusts religion and magic, loathes Jedah, and views the Duma Faithful with suspicion, seeing them as manipulators. His reliance on worldly strength and noble ideals makes him resistant to their influence, though his pride leaves him vulnerable to desperation. Ultimately, Berkut’s story is one of contrast: he is ambitious and proud yet fragile, craving Rudolf’s approval yet terrified of being seen as unworthy, striving to embody Rigel’s strength yet trapped by the insecurities of his childhood.

Appearance: Berkut has short, neatly styled ash-gray hair and gray eyes, his expression stern and composed. He wears a full set of polished dark armor with layered plates across his torso, arms, and legs, accented with subtle engravings. His chestplate and pauldrons are reinforced, the latter adorned with ornate lion emblems. His gauntlets are finely crafted, with articulated plating for the fingers. Around his waist rests a detailed gold-trimmed belt securing a blue undergarment lined with white fur along the hem. A deep royal-blue cape, clasped at the right shoulder, drapes over his armor, its inner lining a lighter shade and the edges embroidered with golden patterns. His armored boots extend up to the knee, layered for mobility and reinforced with additional plating at the shins and knees.

Berkut uses a spear. It is called the Dark Royal Spear.

He is a cavalry unit and rides on horseback. He is currently a member of the Order of Heroes.

There are four unit types: Armored, Cavalry, Flying, Infantry.

Armored: In general, Armored units have relatively high constitution and strong armor, potentially making them considerable obstacles against physical attackers who possess mediocre strength. Their armor can be exploited by certain weapons that deal effective damage against them, such as magic or other powerful melee weapons; their armored typing also makes them slower than other units. Cavalry: Fast units that attack while on horseback. They are very fast an can cover a lot of distance. Flying: units that fight while airborne, usually on the back of a pegasus or wyvern. They can fly over most obstacles. Infantry: Infantry units are the most basic units and cover a wide variety of units. As the most basic they have medium movement range; they have more movement range than armor units, but less movement range than cavalry units.

Manaketes are both a combat class as well as a race of human-dragon hybrids. Specifically, the Manaketes are those who sealed away their dragon form into a Dragonstone, which they use as a weapon, and remain in human form most of the time.
