Will Everett was a talented African American Olympic athlete whose promising career was constantly hindered by the intense racial segregation of the 1940s. While working a humble janitorial job for the brilliant but villainous Ultra-Humanite, he was caught in the explosion of an experimental machine. The resulting accident permanently altered his cellular structure, granting him the extraordinary ability to duplicate the physical properties of any substance he touched.

Initially blackmailed into serving the Ultra-Humanite's criminal schemes, Will soon broke free from the villain's control to become the superhero known as Amazing Man. He dedicated his life to fighting alongside the All-Star Squadron during World War II, battling Axis threats while simultaneously challenging domestic racism.

Appearance: Amazing Man has dark brown skin. He has brown colored eyes. His hair is short and black. He wears a green headpiece that wraps around his forehead and extends down both sides of his face. His green tunic has short sleeves and features a high gold collar with gold rectangular plates on the shoulders. A large gold letter A is centered on the front of his chest alongside two small gold circular buttons. Gold padding is on the outer shoulders. A green belt with a circular gold buckle and gold trim is around his waist. He wears green wristbands with a central gold stripe on both arms. A large green cape is fastened to his shoulders. He wears gold trousers that lead into tall green boots. These boots feature a pointed flared edge at the top.

Personality: Will Everett is defined by his profound resilience, unwavering moral compass, and quiet dignity in the face of immense prejudice. As an African American Olympian in the 1940s who was transformed into a superhuman, he carries the heavy burden of being a trailblazing hero in a deeply segregated society. He is brave and principled, transitioning from a frustrated athlete restricted by bigotry to a dedicated champion of justice. His heroics are driven by a deep desire to fight for genuine equality, making him a stoic, compassionate, and inspiring figure who refuses to let systemic hatred compromise his core values.

His relationships are heavily influenced by his era and his heroic legacy. During World War II, he served as a prominent and respected member of the All-Star Squadron, fighting alongside iconic heroes who recognized his immense value and noble character. He initially had to overcome the manipulations of the villainous Ultra-Humanite, who inadvertently caused the accident that gave him his powers. Beyond his wartime service, his most enduring relational legacy is his family line; he served as a monumental inspiration to his grandsons, Will Everett III and Markus Clay, who both later took up the mantle of Amazing Man to honor his lifelong fight for civil rights.

Will Everett possesses the extraordinary ability of matter absorption, allowing him to transform his entire body into a living, breathing facsimile of any physical material he touches. Later in his life, his superhuman abilities were inexplicably altered, replacing his physical mimicry with the power of magnetic manipulation. This new ability granted him the power to magnetically attract or repel metallic objects using only his hands.

Despite his incredible versatility, his powers have strict limitations when interacting with highly advanced cosmic forces. For example, he cannot adapt the unique properties of a Green Lantern power ring. If he attempts to replicate such complex energy, the ring will temporarily cancel out his abilities and force his body to instantly revert to its normal human state.
